I always loved trucker nicknames for different things - "Ho Chi Mihn Trail" lol. Where exactly is this at? Sounds like a pig path with some grades from you guys' description.

I was wondering about the Schneider Transport drivers if there were still any around. The last one I saw was at a foundry in Lynchburg, VA around 2004 even back then they were a rare bird indeed.

Was actually a good road, helluva short cut. Now,to go to New England from I-80,you have to pull those grades up I-81 North to Scranton,South on I-380,and then across I-84.Back in the old days, stay on I-80 to the river gap, then up the HCM trail,2 lane,no grades to speak of,and you could scoot right along.Except on weekends, you had tourist traffic, used to be a bunch of resorts along the road. But at night, all trucks!

Yep only got to run it a few times before the ban.. I think some old Vietnam Vets started calling that and name stuck.
Kinda like the main road over there, ran along the river

There were a few spots on the Trail that were bad, but only if you were unprepared. Dad used to make a lot of money on "meat haulers curve", about half way up the trail was a poorly banked s curve, swinging beef, live stock, and paper rolls used to wreck there often. At the north end there was a sharp curve when you entered Milford, nicknamed "crash corner", helped Dad clean up many roll overs there. Night time was a wall of trucks running 55-60 without fail, day time you were lucky to make 30 with all the tourist traffic. Used to be a hotel at the north end with some working girls, good food, and cheap beer, south end had the higher end resorts.

Good old days when there was a sterength in unions and they stood for something.

That said, the local teamster person here was asked a while ago by me about any issues dealing with sites that are union - as a true owner operator. He said no problems because I would be a single operator who is not posing any threat to labor. This was what I've been told before when I had to work at a uaw shop.

$1,000 buy in to get the "book"
$72 a month for dues. This is the one covering the town I live in now.
