    Also, please know that as a Technician Class ham, you will have privs on 10 meters from 28.300 - 28.500 MHz on USB, as well as CW (Morse) privs starting at about 28.0 to 28.3, if you are interested in CW. Propagation is similar to 11 meters.

    Personally, I have found 6 meters generally disappointing due to the total lack of activity but YMMV.

    Go on and take the Tech test. You sound as though you will likely pass. Usually, when you pass one test, they ask you if you'd like to take the next test up, in your case that will be General. Go on and take it. If you fail, you lost nothing. If you pass, good for you. You have nothing to lose and just might get lucky. Browse the General questions a bit in the online tests.

    Also, a newer craze with voip is DMR, a digital protocal which allows for statewide, national, and worldwide, comms via linked systems. Here in SC it is totally on UHF.
