In truckstops, if you buy the high speed WiFi service, yet struggle with signal strength, this device will harvest the signal, and serve it to your Wireless LAN in the truck. At some of the Wandering Wifi locations, like Loves in Bennett, CO. I consistently get 3-9Mbit download speeds. It's great for gaming, too.

No. A cellular hotspot will always have a local wifi network up to connect you for printing, even if there is no cell signal/no internet connection.

The only time you will have problems with HP wireless printer connection is if you use more than one of them on the same Windows laptop, especially if the printers are different models. Even in that case, they still usually print ok. It's the scan over wireless that usually gets broken.

My experience with wireless printer connections is they tend to be flakey, and usually quit working when I really don't have time to screw with it. On the other hand, usb just works every time and steals just a second or two of my time to plug it in when I need to print or scan. So I use a wire on my wireless printer LOL.

I also have opted to use the usb cable with my Canon MP495 print/scan/fax and Dell laptop. not saying the WIFI can't be made to work, but after fighting with it a few times I gave up.

p.s.- a printer in the truck tip I learned after destroying three of them. velcro strips are cheap and a great way to secure your printer and still be able to take it out of the truck if you have too ! thank me later.

Hmmm, am I missing something here?
Since when is hooking up ONE cable such a chore?
Hell, I though I was all high tech for having an MP3 player!
Sorry, reliability works better than laziness, oops I meant convenience, for this driver.:biggrin_2559:

First you need a fifteen foot usb to reach the steering wheel then when you have to get up to grab something you snag the usb cable pulling your computer off and landing on the floor breaking the screen so now your really Fd. or the #### cable so long its always getting walked on and soon stops working ,,, guess how I know all this?????????????????????????????????????????????????????

The IP you get doesn't matter. The network your laptop sees on the truck (that the printer is also connected to) is there as long as the hotspot is turned on. Whether the cellular side of your hotspot gets a signal and connects affects only your ability to reach internet sites, not the printer.

So the cable doesn't fit your use habits. Wireless obviously fixes that. The only time I print or scan is either first thing when I wake up to print yesterday's logbook page or when scanning bills for invoicing. I do all that printer work in the bunk using a 10' cable that gets disconnected, rolled up, and tucked next to the printer on it's top shelf when not in use. A little less convenient, but considering I still have to go back there to retrieve printed material or place items on the scanner, not all that much.

Wow, in bold too, so it must be bad....
I print permits etc off my printer/laptop, never been a hassle to run the cord to the steering wheel (also my preferred laptop stand). Takes longer to power it up than plug in the USB cable in my case!

I have a HP 4795 wireless printer ($25.00 6 years ago @ best buy) I can print from my smart phone, do not need internet connection or hotspot or anything just have to be within 75 ft of the printer. After I gave the guy next to me his O.D. permits that he was trying to print in his truck, I learned to turn it off unless I need to print something.
