There's a difference in saying "I took lessons when I was a kid, then did some more when I was stationed in Korea", as a matter of conversation with someone, versus

"I was walking out to my truck, and got jumped by three crackheads... good thing I'm a 12th dan blackbelt in Tang Soo Do, learned under Steven Seagal himself... in fact, I was on the set of most of his movies.. he and I would spar between takes... I helped keep his muscles warmed up".

And yes, I've actually heard that story.

Ronin, I was just messing with you. I couldn't help it. :biggrin_2559:

My sister dated one of those tall-tale guys who claimed to have knocked out that Jean Claude Van #### guy. My sister was so stupid at the time she went and rented every Jean Claude Van #### movie that was ever made. Eventually one day they got in an argument and he ended up slamming my sister against a wall, and my sister's best friend, a 120 lb teenage girl, beat the living **** out of him. When I heard about it I ended up with a headache from laughing so hard. :biggrin_2559:

Have not! Although I met Steven Seagal in Okinawa when I was TDY there, was stationed in Korea... he's a real piece of crap. He was paid to make an appearance at a martial arts expo.. a bunch of us were there competing - your tax dollars at work, and thanks.

He called out some OLD sensei... this guy was like 70, 12th dan, wrote books, and in one way or another, had trained every kid in Korea, either himself, or the kid's instructor served under the old guy.

Seagal called him out, wanted to spar with him... the old guy respectfully declined... he would have beaten him like a drum. Seagal said to his handlers..."either he fights me, or I leave"... and of course, Seagal had been paid to be there. The old guy left, instead, and missed seeing several hundred of his students to a big floor exercise in his honor.

See the difference between a real story and a trucker tale? There were no ninjas crawling out of the woodwork, and I didn't fight anyone.

I hate people who just sit and tell story after story just to hear themselves talk.
These are usually the same people who just laugh when they find out I've only been driving two years. Oh I'm sorry, you've never been a rookie driver before?

The ones which get under my skin are the phony vets. Really irritates the #### out of me (as it should to anyone who actually is). Even the ones who may have gone, but they plainly make themselves out to be more than what they actually were. If someone was Motor Transport in Iraq (which is pretty respectable), they're bound to try claiming they were Rangers. I think it's pretty sad when you can tell by details they give that they actually were in-country, but then they foul it all up by claiming to be in select units they know nothing about. Like the guy who told me he was in "Ranger Battalion at Bragg".

It is like the fish stories you hear, it started out as a 2 pounder and ends up with the last guy telling the story as himself catching a 10 pounder himself. And no I was never a Army Ranger but I did play one on T.V. once. LOL Sequoia I hear ya, when I drove OTR I had the same thing happen a few times. I chalked it up as just a few cowboys that can't seem to stop livin' in the past and want everyone to know bout' the good ol' days before all us steerin' wheel holders ##--ed it up for them. Hello jack ### heres a piece of advice from me the good ol' days are gone, there is no future in the past, and is it possible cowboys like you messed it up for everyone else out trying to do it right. If you spent less time hootin' at the lizards and bellin' up to the buffet, chances are you would not have to live in the left lane goin' 70 plus and creepin' up everyones arse. Just because it goes over 70 does not mean you gotta drive it over 70 all the time. I am by no means trying to offend any driver out there that has been driving a long time I have gotten to know many drivers out there that have many miles under them and many years of safe driving, I would rather talk to you guys, I have gotten a lot of great advice from them guys. I worked construction for 18 years before changing carrers, yes I called it a carrer I take my job very serious, and went out of my way to help the new guys out, it made my job easier if we all did our jobs well, but there were the guys that liked to make fun of the new guys and not give them a hand when needed,. Those were the guys that were scared of new blood coming in to the job because they were not bright enough to learn anything new and were worried more about what everyone else was doing instead of doing there job. These kind of guys are in every type of job, and they will never change and really the only people that pay attention to them on a regular basis are others of the same kind.
