Ok but then you can't say immigrants are taking all the jobs , just the ones ye don't want, then everybody wins, your economy keeps moving, you get the good jobs and the immigrants get to make a living too, besides the pay is pretty good here, I get the same as my Canadian counterparts, same time off, home every evening by 6, subsidized accommodation , I got all my tickets and driving school paid for, on the down side, you are working out in the weather and the work can be quiet physical but I don't mind too much I'm reasonably fit and strong, the cold can be tough

Hmm don't know, maybe I don't know enough about it yet but the company I work for would gladly take Canadians before immigrants, it's cheaper since they pay us the same rates as our Canadian workmates why would they go to the expense of bringing us over, putting us through driving school, getting our tickets and housing us if they were able to hire Canadians for the same pay and not fly them halfway around the planet? Just saying. And yes we do have a lot of Canadians working at the company, some over 15 years, they say that the company is one of the best to work for but people here don't want to do this kinda work

then why doesnt the company take all that extra money they spent on an immigrant driver and put that towards a higher wage?

What is cheaper ?? We have the same amount a mile than the Canadians, also for loading and unloading, border crossing, meet inspection..... Accused not the immigrants, but the Canadians because they are too lazy.

Wow. I don't think I'm lazy at all! Refusing to do things for free just to stay employed isn't in my idea of making a good living.
Most of us feel the same way and instead of these carriers going bankrupt from lack of drivers they buy people from other countries.
This is what the whole thread/issue is about. Our bargaining power being ripped away by carriers so they can make their profit.

Refusing to work for "Slave Labour" type wages is not being lazy. Immigrant workers do nothing but hurt our country's economy and wages. Nobody should be working for mileage pay, all by the hour baby. I've never worked by the mile and never will.

I need to mention here that when many of the imported persons get their permanent residence some carriers stop running them and get more workers.

Ive got a few english friends who are now Canadians bouncing from job to job wondering where the shortage is.

Dan K - I welcome the Eastern Europeans, though.

    Why's that?
