Doesn't dot look at those lights being out as money in there pocket? I thought any light over the outside of the truck had to be operational or they could ticket you?

Nope DOT only does an inspection on required lights.

I was DOT'D Wednesday in front of SNI OC in Dallas on the service road.

He asked me to turn on lights I only turned on the original lights left all the lights I've put on the truck off. He did his inspection and I passed with No Violations found.

Sweet, I've been told before that they look at those trucks with all the chicken lights so they can find the ones that were out so they can get some extra money. Guess that was urban legend to scare is from adding lights

Sounds like the key to that is "only give them what they ask for". They asked you to turn on your lights, you did what was required. As Cat said, it could have been a different story had the officer saw the chicken lights were not illuminated and said, "Sir, please turn on ALL lights".

They can only issue tickets for violations under DOT they can't write tickets for anything the FMCSA rule book doesn't specifically allow them too.

There's certain minimum light requirements to be in compliance as long as those work they can't do anything beyond requirements legally of course.

    Ok an update....

I am beginning to hate this T680 ( I think mine was assembled on a Friday before a 3 day weekend). It's been towed twice. Had fuel pump replaced twice, water pump exploded and was replaced. It's been in the shop for a coolant leak 3 times counting today as I sit in Dayton Ohio at Kenworth. I've paid 2 relay fees for a total of 800 dollars. I had 2500 plus of revenue removed from me today that would've carried me thru the weekend and gave me Monday to run also.

Since Thanksgiving the truck has been oos for a total of 6 weeks due to issues not counting however long this time is.

I definitely won't be getting another paccar.

    So how's your lives been.....LOL
