How long did it take yall to get into a pattern with loads? Im not having trouble getting good loads but the problem is im leaving myself too much time between them which costs money to just sit, im sure it will come with time, last week was my first full week and I grossed 3,700. And that was just doing short runs in the NE, but the problem was I was only doing about 200-300 miles a day, I averaged 2.16 on all miles

Lets do some math.. if you grossed $3,700 on $2.16 all miles that means you drove roughly 1713 miles. Which means your fuel costs were probably about $600. Your fixed costs are roughly $1100.
So without working much you still did around $2k after fixed and fuel costs which is not the end of the world lol. If you drove an extra 1000 miles and did 2700 miles for the week at $1.50 all miles you'd end up with pretty much the same amount of money.
Main thing is trip planning and getting out of the Northeast by the weekend. Not much freight in the Northeast on the weekend.
Plus if you do more open window appointments it helps you stack on more loads.
Dude you did better than me my first week.
All is well, learning the system takes simply gaining experience with it.mickimause, skyviper73 and T_TRUCKER⢠Thank this. -
As you run more you'll figure it out. No one driver is the same as the next. Key is learning from any mistakes and trying not to repeat them. If you could do that every week you'll do good but every day is different so don't worry so much about patterns pay more attention to staying consistent.

I know some will say a pattern is consistent however the freight changes and so do the rates so best bet is to be able to stay consistent no matter the pattern.

The only thing consistent is the change....
Roll on....paul_4lp and mickimause Thank this. -
Day two down. Today was learning the load board and I think that it will be interesting when and if I get to leave Thursday. They did not send the permits to my truck. Oh the fun of orientation.
Tomorrow is road test day. They are still waiting on my permits and a couple more. Also waiting on drug test results for the class.
The instructor is nice and very helpful when we have questions.paul_4lp, mickimause, TennMan and 1 other person Thank this. -

Just call a local electrican he can run you 2 outlets in under 3 hours....all with GFI the channel runs under the bunk..
Captain Davemickimause Thanks this. -
Just keep doing what you're doing..it will all fall into place soon enough.
Don't be afraid to book loads close together..that's what I do.
Usually I'm hustling to the next pick up..but it's better than sitting.
After all it's time you never get back..so make the best use of your hours.paul_4lp and T_TRUCKER⢠Thank this.
