I would like to address something that I have run across this week 3 times already and I think someone should say it on here.
1st I have come across 3 different drivers who have become IC choice drivers in the last 60 days and are already turning in their trucks because of bad info they received from people they spoke to before coming to SNI and two of them say they were referred by a TTR member they spoke with on the phone. I did not ask who and they did not say so this is a general rant not a specific call out.
In all 3 cases they are drivers who have less than 2 years experience and were under the impression that there's more money and freedom to be had by becoming a choice driver but were never told of the extra effort and work and headaches as well as the negatives of the choice program. I feel it is our duty to be as honest and forthright about the choice program and the commitment it is to be successful. I was told that the 2 who spoke with a TTR member were mislead and told mostly positive info that either turned out to be false or half truths without explaining the work required to reach the success of the referrers. Now I don't blame any one for trying to get a recruit if they ask but for some to only care about the bonus and not the success of the driver is a sad reflection on today's society and us as driver's. I wont ask any body for a referral but will answer any one's questions. Those who know me know I'm going to try and help anyone who ask's. I feel if I refer someone I want nothing but their success and will do all I can to help within reason.
My reason for posting is two fold. 1st I think that if any one is considering becoming an O/O or IC no matter which way whether lease or purchase get the experience and knowledge while a company driver not while you're paying the expenses. I believe that everyone grasps things at different times but I know that a new to trucking driver is NOT ready to become an IC. 2nd as a SNI choice IC I think it's our responsibility to refer people who have what it takes to become a successful IC and to mentor those who aren't quite there yet. As a IC we need to see that what we do as a IC is positive and not just about the money. Yes we drive for a living however when referring someone it's also a reflection on us. I hope that every driver with SNI wants to be successful and hope that when they pass on information to a recruit it's to help them be successful and not just get the recruiting money.
I'll end with this is not a specific call out it's a reminder that we're supposed to help these drivers make an informed decision based on all the facts and info not just the good info to get a recruitment bonus..... Thanks for reading91B20H8, Drifter42, rickybobby and 11 others Thank this. -
This is a great post, Tenn! I'll spare my personal Bias on the situation. If they are giving up and it's not even 60 days into it, then they were in no way ready to try run a business. I would be washing truck and polishing rims at night at the truckstop to help make my payments, If I had to. It sounds like they thought it would be just like a company driver gig, except they choose their loads.Time4Change Thanks this.

Good post Tennman.... It should be noted that who ever referred them will not be getting any money as the referral money is split into several payments that pay out over time, and both the referral and the referree must both be employed.....
And I'll also say that I talk to my referrals weekly and they're happily employed and doing well.... Or so they tell me....Time4Change and TennMan Thank this. -
I have no Idea who referred them nor do I care I didn't even ask their screen name, I told them the truth and tried to let them know that their are people who will help if they ask. Also only 2 are officially quitting as they've talked to their recruiter at SFI and are making arrangements. They told me they are making money just a lot less than they were as a company driver. Also I don't think any of them were with SNI before they became O/O or IC they came from outside companies. The 3rd driver says he is seriously considering quitting and I gave him my card and told him to call if he'd like my help. I just want to see driver's succeed even though I know not all will and non will if they give up.Maybe a little encouragement from me will boost their spirits. I will agree that if you come into this IC O/O business if you're not Vigilant and Cautious on how you run your business your DOOMED to fail. Again driver's if you are company become an expert at trip planning and time and money management BEFORE you become an IC.

This is the reason I don't like private messages. I prefer someone ask the question out in the open. If you have a question post it, it will help the next person out. If you ask me a private message I will tell you to post it. This forum is to share info.
moosc, Time4Change, knuckledragger and 1 other person Thank this.
