Good points TennMan. Any IC's on here that would be willing to share their tips for trip planning and time management? I know I need to continue to improve if I want to go IC sometime.
TennMan may return!!!!

Any driver considering going Choice should do their homework.
Talk to as many IC's as you can..ask any and all questions you may have.
Like TennMan said..trip planning is key along with money and time management.
The big thing is..get experience 1st..drive for 2-5 years and learn all you can.
Don't be in a hurry to become a O/O..it's a HUGE step.
Have some money put away for emergencies..don't go into with your last $20 and expect to make it on advances.
That will just put you further behind.
It's not rocket science but it is a challenge..EVERYDAY.
I get frustrated from time to time..it happens to everyone.
You have to want it..really want it..it wont be easy no matter what the "recruiters" here on TR say.
Some of these guys are morons just trying to pad their bank accounts with referral bonuses.
All I can say is take it all in with a grain of salt.
I don't want to mislead anyone..it's tough out here.
It's work people and work isn't always fun and games..after all work is a 4 letter word.
Just saying..drvrtech77, knuckledragger, TennMan and 1 other person Thank this. -
I just wish that I could get access to the load board to start practicing setting up a couple trips at a time. As was told by TennMan when I first start only book your load out and one from there don't try to book a week at a time like some of you do. That is my only fear other than the drive test. Man I hate a road test because I freak when people are in the truck with me.
Time4Change, mickimause, TennMan and 2 others Thank this. -
and fuel management. critical to manage your fuel.

starts with using the trip planning guide that SNI gave yo in Orientation. Really nail that down along with your routing. Compare your routing to Jills. I often would generally punch in or use computer to route via mapquest or similar when trip planning. Time of day you run makes a difference too. Time management comes in with preserving as much of your clocks as you legally can. Facts are there are gray areas in HOS logging. Log off duty whenever possible.
Being a company driver with plans to go IC on choice, man its an ideal laboratory to manage clocks ,fuel and time.TennMan Thanks this. -
If any one has questions they can ask and I will try and answer them. This is an open forum so some things might be hard to describe here.
-
you could change you screen name to VandyMan , to throw them off a little.
TennMan Thanks this. -
Do they offer routes to take or are you on your own so to speak? I noticed that you stated compare to Jill's.
-
they offer routes thru the qualcom called navigo it's the SNI way so shortest but not fastest usually.
popcorn169 Thanks this. -
Jill likes the scenic State Route route, which is nice sometimes but frankly i prefer to not have to shift that much.mickimause Thanks this.
