unfortunate update: I received the terminating resistor in the mail and installed it where it was missing in the datalink. my cluster is working again like it should. the shift lock solenoid is releasing like it should and the truck will now go through all the gears while driving.... kinda. i got about 5 miles down the road and the speedometer went to 6 oclock and the bus went into limp mode. i turned around and headed back to the house and started hearing a hissing sound when i accelerate and almost seemed like my turbo was surging. also my dash display reads "water in fuel". when i got back home i pulled the codes using the cruise control buttons and i have 3 active codes.
SPN 173 FMI 3 SA 0
SPN 4192 FMI 31 SA 0
SPN 3984 FMI 2 SA 33
oh and when i first started the bus after installing the new resistor the cruise control kept trying to set itself within a few seconds after turning the key before i even put it in gear. any ideas? -
I would have a look at the turbo plumbing as the hiss is probably a leak most likely from one of the hoses which is causing the power loss. My password for Navistars site expired and I can't reset from home so I can't tell you what the faults are.

4192 is the water in fuel
173-3 is exhaust gas temp out of range high.
We never use the cluster to get codes. It really isn't mean to be used. The speedo signal is processed and sent over the datalink from the transmission, so that should be checked.spsauerland Thanks this.
