Don't forget... if you're subject to dispatch to Canada you'll be limited to 65 because of the speed-limiter law in Ontario.
When we cut our speeds down into the 60's the accident rate dropped to the lowest in the company's 40-or-so year history. I'm a lease-op... when I run faster, the costs eat-up most of the gains in gross revenue I may see. There's little point to pushing faster than the mid-50's for me.
Terrible for Drivers!

Screw it cut them to 40 mph and leave interstates for 4 wheelers and cut us to 22 cpm that will save the companys so much and the accisdent rate will drop again.

If I'm the owner of a company, and I'm given the opportunity to save $350K, you're #### right I'm doing it. If that's the cheap way out, so be it.

The difference in scheduling for a slower truck is the company's problem. They need to open their delivery windows a little more if they're going to govern their trucks. That is a legitimate complaint.

48Packard, I understand your viewpoint and the owners viewpoint about saving money, but here is the situation I get into everyday. I am in a daycab and have a 635 mile round trip, two drop and hooks and pre trip and fueling, everything has to go according to plan for me not to be over on hours, no breakdowns, no flats, no delay on the delivery for me to run it legally. 99 percent of the time it works out just fine, but there have been times I have been fortunate to use paper logs.
Some of the driver's running the same trip have electronic logs have made it round trip with only 7 minutes to spare on their 14 hour clock. So, its really cutting it close the way the operation is laid out right now. I personally am more stressed in a 65 mph truck because every day, I have to pass slower trucks that are going across the hills on I40. I see traffic backing up, and I get flipped off all the time, and then sometimes as you are passing drivers they speed up. When I worked for another division of this company and the trucks ran 68, I never had that problem.7122894003481 Thanks this. -

I "get" this, and I have the same problem, but I have also found that if I go over my 14 and/or 11 by a few minutes (or quite a few minutes), the worst that happens is that the #### Qualcomm starts beeping every minute.
I do not get shocked, the truck does not automatically shut down, and I do not get fired. It is a PITA to be sure, but not the end of the world.
And I doubt that if I ever apply to a different company, that they will be able to pull up my elogs and see that I went over for a few minutes, once in awhile, and decide they can't hire me for that reason.
In other words, elogs aren't that much different than paper.
Waaay to much panic on this board about breaking the rules, slightly, once in awhile. Take a deep breath, calm down, and drive on down the road. -
You do realize that the company can not fix this 11 min or so error and when Audited you will be cited!

No doubt that the "one size fits all" philosophy sure as heck does not work in this industry. If your turn is 635, any bobble in the traffic can screw you up. I absolutely understand your side of the argument. Unfortunately, as the nanny state progresses in this wonderful society we live in, those who are "vastly more educated and knowledgable" than we mere drivers will continue to try to legislate what they see as a perfect world.
