This would all depend on how it is installed.... several options here...
One could install in a separate partition.... (have 2 OS on computer)
Repair install (just repair and does not install over)
And a few other ways to install without installing over.....
Best way is always do a clean install (make sure you have all drivers to do so)

they sell pcs with sub par amounts of ram, to make more money on the upgrades people will buy after finding out they shouldve spent the extra cash in the first place. the general public wants cheap computers, when they get there cheap computer home, and find out that it isnt quite as fast as it should be, they look around on this here interweb, find out more ram is the answer, and call up... the people they bought the computer from.
computer manufacturers know that about 80 percent of the computer buying public is very close to being computer illiterate. what would be a 30 dollar upgrade to memory when you order your dell, costs a little bit more when youve already got the dell at home.
being said ive got vista running on my laptop, 1.8 ghz amd, 2 gig pc4200 corsair. no issues, boots in about 30 seconds due to all the programs i have that load at start up. -
I tried office 07 and did not like the new interface at all.
VISTA is such a joke, it needs 2GB to run stable, but is limited to 3GB total on the 32 bit version. It's going to be 3-5 years before we see a stable set of drivers for 64 bit VISTA. MS will most likely not really support 64 bit until the next OS hits the market.
