From what I am told over and over, it's weather and quality of life you have to consider. I live in OK but run over the state line into TX. When I am off I am just an hour away from concerts, good restaurants, casinos, and a short drive to major cities like Dallas and OK City. If you like fighting for a spot at the local Hardies and living in blizzards then you should head to ND. If you like to sweat to death then head to South Texas. Sure you might make a couple of bucks an hour more in ND but you are being compensated for a lower quality of life, and that is just the fact. Also anyone who thinks TX is slow hasn't been down here. I could leave my company tonight and get a job with no less than 3 different outfits in under 24 hours.

Hello everyone, I have been driving Class A for 11 years and the last year hauling gasoline and liquid hot oil. I have been off for a few months
and looking to relocate to a more stable environment. I live near Chicago and have no problem working 70+hrs/nite/day shifts. Does anybody consider a driver "experienced" without oilfield experience?

Im open to either place but sounds like Texas might be better. Long term I would like to move the kids and the wife with me.

As long as there isn't important stuff you aren't telling us, finding a job should be easy. My house is two hours from Chicago but I've been in West Texas for three months. When I first got here, I went to an open house with Chesapeake Energy and they told me to get six months oilfield experience elsewhere, first. There are a lot of options and I've got one of these $70-$80k frac sand jobs. When I think about Chicago, I think of a lot more stress. It's really pleasant and easy out here, I love the free range cows. Lots of low hanging fruit, but eventually I'll want to be "home" again. I plan to go back with money in the bank.

Thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. I'm in ND hauling crude. I have housing paid for, work 12 - 15 ( oops ) I mean 14 hrs a day, grossing $10,000 a month isn't to hard. Like people have been saying the quality of life here when not working sucks, but I'm not here for that. Thats what home is for.Ya it's butt cold here ( well its starting to warm up into the 40's ) the roads suck, things thaw and we have mud galore. As far as traffic people complain about it but I was a local Los Angeles area driver for 20+yrs, so they have no idea what traffic is. I do a lot of waiting in line to unload but I make over $30 hr after the first hour for that. Usually do 2 maybe 3 loads a day. To sum it up ...This place sucks but I like the bucks. good luck to anyone coming up here

You're full of it! Easy to clear $100K a yr in TX and still live a lot better life. There are just as many or more rat outfits in the Balkins as TX/OK. You like cold weather and living stacked 4 deep head to ND. Or Afghanistan. We lived in 10 man tents. Can take the heat and aren't some nasty lib/commie you will thrive in TX.

Are there any women or African Americans working in the oil fields? I read a post about racism? Is it unsafe for women or AAs there?
