We had a big timber sale out by Prarie City, Or. Decked up on the second round about 8am or so you could count the dead ones in the bar ditch. Probably 20 to 30 in a 50 mi section of 2 lane. Guy could of made a living with a pu and a few hands. This went on for a few weeks before the pop was thinned out. I knew my time was coming on that haul but somehow was unscathed that time.

I'm considering getting animal decals and start lining them up on my driver's door. Deer, coyotes, roadrunner, squirrels, owls, etc. I could be like a fighter pilot.

i used to get up at or about 3AM on the weekends (when i ran regional) jump on the bike and go for a long ride on a 2 lane road, in "forested areas" of my state.

never had any problems, except that insipid "fog" on the windscreen...

i must have been lucky....back then.

wouldn;t do that crazy crap today.

    "i skeered of da dark"....now

Loud pipes saves lives,,,although, as an old man, it's very annoying.

Maybe one of the vehicles going the other direction honked at them. They will usually just sit there and munch on the grass as you go quietly by.

make some noise and all bets are off....

If you catch one in the headlights while they are crossing the road and they just sit there then pumping the brake seems to help. The noise from the purging air seems to give them some sense of direction of where danger is coming from, but not as alarming as a horn would be. With the horn they just panic and their hoofs seem to be quite slippery on pavement. They just dance/slip around trying to move but go nowhere from all the sliding around. :(

We don't have any deer here, but plenty moose. Moose do not like straight pipes and jakes. ( out of 10 times If I see one in time to jake, they will around and head back the direction. For some reason, once they are in the middle of the road, moose are bad about turning and running down the road straight away from you.
