    Wow.
    All that for Vietnam?

Personally, I find all this 'Thank you, all veterans' spiel to get a bit sickening.

I might end up killing someone that has broken into my house and is a deadly threat to me or my family.

I might even kill someone if they are a deadly threat to a stranger.

But to go somewhere like Vietnam and kill under the orders of Uncle Sam for no specific reason or cause or end?
    No, I would not.

Same goes for too many of the war-but-not-war conflicts the U.S. has been in so often since WW2.

Being a veteran means as much being a hero, as it does being a sheep for the slaughter.
As much being the fodder, as it is being the remote executioner.

There is no great honor in being a soldier.
There is only death, for one or for all.

Why I am in such awe with Vietnam is the fact that so many were FORCED without any right to say NO to go over and die. Interesting fact out of approx 375,000 troops less than a 1/3rd were volunteer's and most that werer FORCED over were between the age of 18-25 straight out of highschool or college to go. Kinda like you getting a forced dispatch. Is it a fight we needed to get into no, like many of the other conflicts we found/find ourselves in. I also understand/agree with how you feel with the other statements in your post. BUT OTR WIFE just wanted to say thanks to those that served in ANY WAR so lets leave this post for that.

48Packard and ORT WIFE Thank this.

    Period.

    Everyone has a choice.

The college deferment draft dodgers sending people to wars today should be over their putting in their time.
