After 3 attempts I just passed my class for my CDL Class A. The Class was to short but they say I can drive a 18 wheeler. I'm not really satisfied with kirkwoods course through CRST but I am glad and proud that I can safely and legally operate a Vehicle that weighs more than 30,000 lbs.
Thanks for the info on CRST

Watch who you get for a trainer on the road. If they try to use you Get Off The Truck and wait for a new one if you can!
-
How do you get "used" ? By learning how to drive?
-
Like most new students who think there being used, he probley was. Forced to drive 10 hours a shift.
When i was training. My students got mad at me when i made them work. I think most of them thougbt the trainer was going to be the one that dose all the work. Lol -
Go to work to not work?

It's easy if you know how to set yourself up. It can be hard if you convince yourself it's hard. Here is how you do it:
1. Move slow enough to where you can stop smoothly if you need to.
2. Pull the tractor and the front half of the trailer past the spot/truck-trailer to the right of the spot you need to be in and start cutting to the right and keep moving forward until your tractor is straight or near straight and you can see down the entire drivers side of your trailer. You may need to manuever right and left to get straight.
3. Take another look out both driver side and passenger side mirrors to make sure you are still straight, sometimes you can turn the steering wheel just too much to one side and be #### eyed. Pull forward again if you need to.
4. Use your horn to make sure anyone in the back area of your trailer knows your backing up and just glide backwards until you feel the bump of the back of the trailer against the dock pads.
If your instructor asks, tell him A Old Texas Trucker with 41 years experience told you that you aint backing into a slot/open spot unless you get the tractor and trailer straight enough to back in smooth.
Now in some instances you may not be able to do it this way, so you need to practice and over time, you will get better. You can't get any worse, right partner?doored88 Thanks this. -
Lol ...... Work, oh wait I'm scared of work. 14 years in the Army, working since I was 12. JA! Drove 11 or as closed to it as I could get and mostly nights. Got one back in almost 3 weeks on the truck. Maybe you were a good trainer and taught your students something other than to go forward.
