So about to finish up my cdl school so looking into different companies to get some experience. Wanted to say thanks for all the information I've learned reading post on here. I'd probably would have ended up driving for crst if it wasn't for yoi guys. They told me they would give me a 1,000 sign on bonus which sounded good until they told me I'd have to drive teams for .20 a mile for the first 3 months. I don't expect to walk in the door get a local route home every night but really team driver for only .20! Thank god I had my gi bill to pay for school so I wouldn't be stuck with company sponsored training. Think I'm going to wind up with another big company, still going to have it rough for the first six months but I believe you have to start at the bottom and earn your stripes. So once again thanks to all you salty truckers out there your advice doesn't fall on deaf ears. I.Y.A.O.Y.A.S.
thanks

I drove team at .22 its not a bad deal. That's .22 a mile for every mile the truck rolls even if your sleeping. So .20 isn't that bad but crust does suck..you should look into Conway truckload.

I know Werner isn't the best but there willing to give me .26 and a regional route to start off with and a pay increase after training. Still have a couple of weeks to decide.

all team pay is HALF. becuase the truck rolls twice as much. you get paid wether your the driver or in the sleeper.
it equates to full pay as a solo. only you don't get paid to be in the sleeper. but you DO sleep better.bullhaulerswife and Justanotherguy Thank this. -
Regional with a refrigerated company is OK for some that want more home time. Between loading/unloading, mandatory HOS down time, you may not get the miles you want.
Probably get more miles with a flatbed company such as System Transport or Melton Truck Lines. Also, check the trans-system website. A recent post on here stated many tanker companies in CA are hiring new CDL grads. Schneider tanker has been doing this for a long time, but there are now others doing it. Check Careerbuilder website.
Many companies websites indicate experience required, but ignore that and apply anyway. Many companies hire new CDL grads, but just don't advertise it.Justanotherguy, airforcetoo and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
Want to do flatbeds but haven't been able to find a company. Thanks for the info.

Thanks Chinatown just put in apps for both of those flatbed companies.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
At Crete, you would go with a trainer for 8 weeks . I assume they pay about $ 500 / week maybe. After training, they would pay $.34 . After 1 year $ .40 / mile practical miles. I think they have a western regional. They are worth checking out. I was there 18 years. I think they are better than some of the others. Like swift, werner, cr england, crst.
Justanotherguy and airforcetoo Thank this. -
Crete is one if the companies I'm looking into. Its hard to figure out who to go with right out of school. Everybody makes themselves sound so good.
