I woke up at 23:00 thanksgiving eve at home in my own bed at home. That was nice. I knew I could sit on the load in my trailer till Monday. As I laid there I was like, “it’s raining in LA.” Only a complete maniac would get out of bed and drive 1.5 hours to deliver, then grab an empty and drive back.
So I bombed through the rain and delivered. Security guard was like “don’t they give you a day off?” I laughed and said “ya, of course, but I don’t get paid days off.”
Zero issues, no traffic. Easy delivery. Got back around 03:30 and went back to sleep till 06:30. My wife just got up and has no idea. Frankly it feels good to deliver and have an MT in my driveway.
Plus being a maniac is it’s own reward. My DM has to work today. Can’t wait to see what he says...lol.
I’m off till Sunday or Monday. I realized having a bathroom is really nice. Forgot how nice it is to just walk into your bathroom. You know, no weird smells, bizarre people shaving, and having quiet and peace. Wait I have a ten year old so most of that is still kinda true.HahahahaWildTiger1990, Blackshack46, 88 Alpha and 2 others Thank this. -
it's like my current job as well...
we work the eve, cuz the customer opens his doors the day after the holiday, so he wants his product there when the customers come in, and they are not ordinary customers, they are building contractors...some of which work thru the holidays when they have contracts to fulfill....so even if the customers show up the day after T-Day, all is stocked and ready for the customers up until and thru Monday.
this year, Christmas eve is on a monday, now in the past, the other 2 drivers would go out christmas night and make the deliveries...
well i go out on the eve, after i have had my usual eve dinner, which in my house, x-mass eve is the bigger holiday.......yes, there might be a bit more holiday traffic, but i can deal with that, over the traffic of everyone going back home on x-mass night......some of which can be sloshed outta thier minds...
it's 6 of one, half a dozen of another in this business......laaylor and otterinthewater Thank this. -
I got home yesterday morning. I’m going back out Monday....but they might call me Sunday to go out..

Home today after spending a couple of hours at the office this morning. Our fuel trucks are running today but they should be done early.
. The wife is recovering from knee replacement surgery so our Thanksgiving will be a quiet one. I'm getting to use some of my well rusted nursing skills but the only thing getting carved today will be a seafood casserole I made last night.bzinger, EuropeanTrucker, Blackshack46 and 2 others Thank this. -
Every year, at this time, and again in a few weeks, someone on Facebook will post a Meme about "say a prayer for all those not at home with their family: Military, Police, Fire, EMS, Hospitals" I always type as an add on, the 1 million truck drivers sitting alone in a truck at some truck stop, who may or may not get a decent meal in a truck stop diner, who's sole companionship for today is whoever the prerecorded DJ on the radio. Not to mention the train crews still out today. I saw four or five trains heading into or out of Denver today.
As for me, I'm home till Monday, but I'll be on the road at 1 am on Monday, although I do have to work for about an hour on Saturday, have to pickup my load at the ramp for that Monday run.Truckermania, bzinger, 88 Alpha and 4 others Thank this.
