Honestly I'd like to try a old big cam or small cam. Just because. I don't care if it's a cabinover.

There is a reason you owned 4 or 5. Or to be blunt there is a reason you still don't own one and are driving for some one on a 1099. The best reason in the world to take what you say with a grain of salt. I hate you can't see the point I'm trying to make, either way I'm done arguing with you kid

Much like what we here in MD call “battered gun owners’ syndrome”, I’m detecting a bit of battered trucker syndrome here. The question I have is, is it even necessary?

I’m sure the powers that be are well aware of any “exemptions” and ways to work within a law while evading it’s intention without having to read about it from us.

Who said I do not own anything? I am trying to catch up still after being handed my ### running ragged for the $1 a mile pay rate. Never again. The lesson your telling me is eld stinks I agree. Been there. Not going back. Unless the pay is day rate of $400 dollars for company driver. But maybe it will happen?

I know this too well from previous eld use. But the other guys will say you need to plan better. Or your just lying. Just wait until you need a bag to poo in, when no bathroom around, or your out of hours.

See it really does come down to better planning. In some cases its guys that need to learn how to trip plan, in others its guys need to find better customers that won't hold you up for extended periods of time, or customers that pay better and compensate you for the extra time the load requires. It all boils down to a good business plan.

Ok, I'm leased to a company, automotive freight.... Good example, I worked for five hours one morning... I rolled out of the rack at 5am, made coffee, adjusted the boys, went in and did the constitutional and grabbed an egg sandwich... I parked back at the same truck stop at 10am, I chilled in the sleeper, slept, relaxed, ate, got a shower, used the head, whatever. I think I drove 50 miles up until that point... I bagged what, $350 NET, not gross, NET, dry van, a few skids, $7 a mile. I was then dispatched for a load picking up 93 miles away at 8pm... That load paid $700 NET to drive another 103 miles, 6 skids. How can I plan for that? One hour on the ELD would have killed me, that is $4.36 a mile, IFTA miles, that is my NET for the ENTIRE DAY including the short run that morning.

$1050.00 NET using IFTA miles to run 246 miles in what amounts to an average work day for most folks, if not less. Sorry, I'm not going to pass that up, HOS or not. I am out here to earn a living, not bask in glory in a truck stop because I do so well. And I highly doubt I am going to fall asleep at the wheel and wipe out a mini van full of college cheerleaders. This is a typical day for me, on paper. End of story.

If the first load paid better you wouldn't of needed the second in order to have a decent day. The fact is it took both those loads to have a decent income on that day. Neither of them paid good enough to meet your income needs on their own. If you have to violate hos to make good money it only means you are running freight that pays less than it should.

Edit to add: another option. with better planning on your carriers or customers part you could have gotten to that 2nd shipper and had time to get an 8 hour sleeper berth in. Instead of going back to that truck stop after delivering you could have headed straight to the 2nd shipper.

I’m guilty of driving through parking lots at 3mph. It’s not to save 45 seconds, it’s to save 15-20 minutes for me

I haul fuel, 2 of my main stops have the diesel and gas tanks about 50 yards away from each other, so I’ll start my break when I start dropping the diesel, and then creep over to the gas tanks at 3mph so that my break is not interrupted
