99 and older engines are exempt. Anyone know how they plan to verify that? I’m exempt I run local but I know another thats not. My trucks a 13 glider the engine tag is not legible so how would they know?

It does not matter if you air radius within 150 miles. That is your exemption. Ecm may have date info on engine.

By the guidance if the person on the spot cannot figure out the engine date, they refer it to be look into by the same people that do audits. They will want the truck info paperwork, which must be kept by other fmcsa regs.
So he either gets a ticket for no ELD, or not keeping the proper paperwork.

Oh, and anyone having to go out for ELD's, I'm sure will find something else to write up the company for....

Are there really guys who have gone out and bought an old truck or glider just to avoid elogs? Seriously?

I do know a guy who bought a brand new glider in 2016 because he bought all that hype about better fuel economy, no emissions problems, etc.

Talked to him a couple of weeks ago. He's trading it in for a new PB (with emissions) because he's had quite a few problems with the glider, gotten sub-par fuel mileage (6.5 mpg on a good day) and realized he's missed out on a lot of really good paying loads into & out of CA with his his Conestoga.

In reality, he's now going to take it in the shorts on the trade-in for that new 165k plus PB.
