Aye, pretrip final airbreak, or startup after a long stop is so annoying, but its gotta be done, saves lives.
-
Looks like you covered everything that I could....er...remember.
When I did my pretrip stuff, mudflaps couldn't be higher than 6 inches from the ground. Also, there must be conspicuity tape or markers above the tractor mudflaps. -
oh my god.just got out of driver seat from backroads. im scared crapless that's a lot to remember with 4 students heckling my butt never drivin a stick...but ill get it this is sent from phone. ill post more later when home.

I know it's hard, but ignore them. If they can do better, then good on them, but they need to have the patience and understanding to know that you're just learning. Just keep on thing in mind when driving the truck.... You're driving the truck. Don't let it drive you. It'll only do what you "let" it do. There's a quote on my FB page. "F*** it. Just drive." Words to live by.

Once again, excellent advice. Those boneheads have to learn too, and you can certainly show your class by not following in their footsteps. Surround yourself with positive, like-minded people. You're taking this serious and that's the ONLY way to do it.

TruckerDragon, sounds like youre doing great bud, keep it up. A year from now youll be able to look back on this thread and give yourself a huge LMAO.
Try this on for size, it may or may not help you in regards to straight line backing. Its also the way I learned to back. If it confuses you more, just throw it away lol.
To straight line back. Drift left Turn Left. Drift Right Turn Right.
In other words. If you're trying to keep the trailer straight behind you while backing, and you see the trailer drifting into your left mirror, turn the wheel left. If you see the trailer coming into your right mirror, turn the wheel right.
As that trailer gets bigger in your right mirror, turning the wheel right will make it disappear.
Drift left, turn left. Drift right, turn right.CarolinaCatJack Thanks this. -
Oh my GOD what a long, hard, confusing, stressful day!
Get to the yard at 7am, and for about a hour they put me behind the wheel and make me drive on roads, shfiting, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8... 8, 6, 4, ....4,5,6,7,8.... etc...
But, frankly, I hit very few without physical assistance, but it was my first time driving stick ever....then once everyone drove for a hour we went back to the yard and worked on 'off set' basically "Here is x feet, pull forward, park in the spot next to you." And that was ALSO a pain in the butt, I dont get/figure out either of them yet. Tomarrow is more shifting but odd gears this time, and more offsets. i dont shift fast enough, hesitate...I feel like a failure even though he said I did ok and i would get it... -
What...you expected to be proficient after just your first time ever driving a stick? #### Sam, you're being too hard on yourself bro! That's one of the reasons school takes more than just a week. You need practice, practice and more practice. You'll pick it up just like your teacher said. You're not a failure by any stretch of the imagination. You'll get it. be patient with yourself. I guarantee tomorrow will be much better than today!!!
CarolinaCatJack Thanks this. -
Though funny note of the day:
80 foot semi...with STUDENT DRIVER along the ENTIRE 53 foot trailer...end to end...
Both sides...
Guy in a honda lays on the horn, and pulls up next to me as I take a turn too wide:
"LEARN TO DRIVE MOTHER F_____ER!!!"
So...dude in the back (student) is like "HE IS MOTHER F____ER Learn to read before I have to make him fail his pretrip and pick your skull out of his tandems"just lil me, Gears and CarolinaCatJack Thank this.
