Truckerdragon, sorry I should have used some smiley faces, I didn't mean for it to come across harsh! My point was simply to stand out from the rest of the sheep. Don't give any excuses or lies. Be upfront and honest about everything. A good company will love you for it! Also don't worry about getting hired on by a company after school. I would focus on getting hired on by the RIGHT company. Stay away from pretty much any company your school recommends. They are being paid to do so. Also stay away from the mega-carriers. Any company that has to spend millions of dollars in advertising to get you to work for them is definitely not worth working for. That is RED FLAG number one! Go for the smaller companies that aren't advertising. This means their driver turnover rate is low which in turn means their drivers are happy and like their job. It is definitely going to take more effort but those are the jobs you want. Any felon with two arms and two legs can get a job at Swift, and Werner and England etc... That's what those companies like. Just butts to keep their seats warm! Cheap disposable labor! Good luck to you and don't follow the herd!
The adventure Begins!

Sadly my acceptance into the school is DEPENDANT on my working for swift for X time (Im sure once I have my CDL I can figure somthing out) But working for swift is my only ticket into school right now (unless your financing me?

) Worst case: I can suck it up for some time. Best case: I like it, some seem very happy there. Nana, and Injun for two

Working for Swift isn't a death sentence for pete's sake. Look at it as an opportunity to getting your CDL and starting your career. Make the most of every situation and don't listen to all the negative about Swift. There's PLENTY of satisfied Swift drivers out there and you can be one of them too.
BarnDog Thanks this. -
My unrequested $0.02 on the matter.
If you work for Swift with a positive, happy-go-lucky attitude, get your loads there on time and never say "Boo" back to Dispatch ..... you will find you have a good career in front of you.
Demonstrate that you are a Professional and they will treat you as one.BarnDog and 18wheelsofsteel Thank this. -
LMFAO....... dude, you really need to get that ####e under control. LOL. -
I went through a website to find my school. I googled truck driving schools and took a look through some of the sites. Been driving for 2 years and love it.

Alright update:
I went to the school and...Impressed. VERY impressed.
3 weeks, 6 days a week, 10 hours a day, and he said "It goes like this: Day 1, classroom and the basics, logbooks and such, homework, day two, first half, finishing what was not done day one, then out to the yard to learn basics parts of the truck. Homework. Day 3 onward, first half of the day you are in the yard backing, shifting, learning hands on, other half your on the road with a trainer, then end of the day, more homework.... 140 hours of truck time. 10 to fifteen of class time."
The best part:
"If at the end of the three weeks, you dont get it, your not ready, your not comfortable, you want more help with somthing... you get it. Its free. Even if you have your CDL, I wont put someone on the road with my family out there that is not fully confident behind the wheel."
Needless to say. I put in my two weeks. So, odds are 99 to 1, the 18th of October is my first day of school
Im so stoked!
