I don't really have anything to contribute to this thread, but I think I might have some encouraging words....

Dragon, best of luck in your new venture. I've read every post in this thread and judging by your positive outlook, I think you'll do fine. Don't sweat the small stuff. Driving a truck is nothing like driving a car. Combination vehicle, wider turns, more gears to shift, double-clutching, more blind spots to watch.... Once you get the hang of it, it comes naturally. It's honestly not as hard as most people make it out to be. Go in there with a good attitude (which you have shown to already have), look professional, and be willing to learn anything they're willing to teach. Be a sponge and soak up EVERYTHING.

Trucking is, and has always been, more than a job. It's a lifestyle. It gets in your blood and there's no getting it out. I know.... I'm a third-generation driver. I was born into it. Mom's still got baby pics of me next to my grandfather's truck and in the seat of my dad's truck. I've been obsessed with trucking since I was a little boy. When I got my driver's license at 15, I knew I wouldn't have it more than a few years. Once I turned 21, I went for that CDL, and got it. I've had more fun on that road than most people can handle, and I've seen more than most folks my age (I'll be 30 in November).

Best of luck to you!!! Everything WILL work out for you, driver. Just give it time. We're here for support and will answer whatever questions you have.

Gears, you've been a big help to Dragon. I know he's thanked you numerous times, but I want to thank you too. It's awesome to see a seasoned driver helping someone out who's wanting to break into the industry. It's guys like you that make the rest of us proud. Thanks for everything and I look forward to more posts for you.

    Shiny side up, truck drivers....

Thanks! I am trying to be positive, but I am sure eventually Swift haters will come, its inevitable, but Its all good, im not going to let anyone ruin my fun, ideas, or plans, failure is no option at this moment. :)

My teachers/mentors seem real awsome and the hardest part right now is the DMV reading, im a hands on guy, reading never seems to sink in and some of the questions seem like...misleading. But I am sure I will make it.

Thanks for your kinds words CarolinaCatJack.
The way I look at it, there's WAAAY too much negativity in this world and quite a bit in this forum to boot. I try and offer positive advice when I can and am always ready to offer encouragement.

TDragon...don't even be concerned with the Swift haters. Ignore 'em and they'll go away. If they know it gets to ya, they'll pour on the coals. Life's too short and there's PLENTY of road out there for everyone.

Gears is absolutely right, Dragon. If you wanna drive for Swift, go for it!! You might be perfectly happy there!! I'm fixin' to catch crap about this here on this forum, but I think I'm fixin' to go drive for Werner....I'm in the same boat!! :biggrin_2559:

When I rode along with a Werner driver, I didnt see too much outside of 'normal things' to complain about. Ill be honest:

He was a bad driver. Tore off bumper, dented fuel tank, and ripped off one of those little wing thingies on the side behind the sleeper (Fin? I dunno yet) ALl in ONE stop. 3 accidents and they kept him on longer! They were tolorent. Sure bad crap happens but it happens in every job.

Only thing I can say neg about werner was I didnt like the yards I saw, very poor condition.

As for swift haters, most hating I see comes from disgruntled employees whos dreams got crushed, someone who got a bad truck or a bad dispatcher, or someone who could not get hired on in the first place.

Injun and Nana tell crap how it is normally, why would they lie about a company? i have plenty of PM's praising my choice too from various people. Haters hate, because they are unhappy with themself.

I don't mean to hijack a thread, but Injun....The ProStar in your signature is flippin' GORGEOUS!!!!!! LOVE that color.... By the way, I retract my obligation for Werner. Looks like it's going to be TMC. Might be tuggin' a skateboard soon!

TMC They've got some pretty nice looking rigs on the road. Seem to be well cared for too. Swift Werner or TMC, whatever suits your fancy...you guys just go out and give it your best!

After a Werner trainer ran into my truck while I was parked (the second time for me with Werner), I talked to their claims guy on Monday morning... he told me to call back on Wednesday since it takes a full three days to receive all the accident reports from a typical weekend... ouch!
