Sounds like an interesting proposition. Would this "deal" be only in a specific geographical location? I'm on the west coast.

I would like to be business partner. Cost, flexibility repairs, any up front cost, etc, etc, etc. Would love more info.

Triple B , I like your posts and I like your ideas. I just bought my own truck, for cash, 37000 big fat bucks of cheque writing pain! I also have 8000 in reserve. Now thats alot of dough to save and then lay down in this industry. I guess you could say "I'm all in" ! I wanted to do it this way cos i dont want to deal with banks, finance or dealerships, all thieves and con-men if you ask me. But I like your idea, because it presents an alternative, if i couldnt have saved my cash I would have had to deal with them. Now you seem like an honest straight up business person. That means alot to the people you would be trying to attract with the idea your proposing. The BFI L/P scum will allways have a never ending supply of dimwitted wannabes signing there life away on a never-never plan. You on the other hand propose to offer an alternative for the informed, motivated, sensible driver that, for whatever reason, needs a bit of the right help. I commend you for your idea as it shows a willingness to preserve some dignity and business integrity in an industry that is in short supply of both! I believe if you truly do represent yourself in your business as you do on this forum then you would have every success with your idea. I hope you do offer something such as this as I am sure there are hard working , intelligent drivers out there who would jump at an opportunity to be part of an honest and open business arangement that sees all parties involved enjoy success.

    BigBadBill Thanks this.

That was the one thing I told Bill I'd be cautious about when he was telling me about this. Stuff happens. It would suck to have a half a dozen of these "lease trucks" and a number of them suffering major mechanical failures causing hardship on drivers and stressing the company as well. The way he's vetting drivers will weed out a lot of tire thumpers leaving prospects with good business sense who are really motivated though. Might actually be a good process to vet prospective o/o wanting to lease on in this manner who already have their own equipment, but I would have failed that one back in September had such a policy been in place lol...

So if someone came with the option of a truck. IE, one of the Ashley Vovlo lease returns. Would that be an example of an acceptable truck too?

Or only the ones that you have approved?

From what I gather they are a Trucking Company and Freight Brokers, and I think maybe they specialize in flatbed. Still I might be interested.

Why would someone pay more to lease purchase a truck from you (obviously you are in this to make money) when they can go out and buy the exact same one on there own for less money?

There is a reason why a lease purchase is attractive to people because they cannot get a truck on there own usually credit or lack of money or whatever. What makes you think that they will all the sudden change?

I have held the note on 20-25 trucks before and all but 6 or 7 I took back. Not because they are bad truck drivers I would not do it if they were bad truck drivers but because they lacked basic money management skills. Don't get me wrong it is a good way to make money as the lien holder/lessor. You can do all the vetting of the drivers you want but just remember there is a reason why the people who come to you to get a truck do.

I don't think anything is wrong with trying to expand your business, I would have pause because In my belief some drivers are excellent sales(con)men and tell you everything that you want to hear, make it sound like they really have it going on and are undercover goofballs. From your previous post it sounds like you have a great business model, and a good thing going on, I wish you luck and I will pm you about opportunities for current o/o
