Haha I have a quarter tank left when I fuel up so it goes an extra 250 miles but I dont like to run that low on fuel unless I have to. Quarter tank I fuel up.

How can you tell that a cat is pre egr? By sn? The last truck I had had a 500 detroit 12.7. No complaints what so ever. I took it past a million and still running strong. I wish I still had that truck.....

CAT's don't have egr. Any 2002 or older truck with a C15, those are the last of the good pre-emissions CAT's. It's the single turbo CAT and the engine serial number has the prefix 6NZxxxx. On rare occasions an '03 model truck will have come from the factory with a 6NZ motor. But for the most part all '03 C15's start with the pre-fix MBN. This is also a single turbo motor and one to be avoided at all costs. Worst engine they ever made. It is the notorious "bridge" CAT engine used to bridge the gap between older pre-emssions engines and the twin turbo ACERT's that came on the scene in '04.

Occasionally you can find an MBN motor in an '04 year model truck so beware of all '04 trucks advertised as "single turbo CAT" cause that's the MBN. '04 thru '07 are the ACERT twin turbos these motors start with prefixes BXS, MXS (I think these are the ones, I'm not up on ACERT info). Then '08 and up CAT motors with DPF's to be avoided at all costs unless you don't mind spending many thousands $$$$$ removing the dpf garbage. There is a ton of information on all CAT motors in the various threads here although it'd take a really long time to sift through it all sure enough.

1,062,189 miles and counting on my partially "un-bridged" MBN. No oil consumption on 12,000 mile intervals and no blowby. The head cracked at 759,000 and had to be replaced. This was due to the stupid emmisions tuning of the factory original MBN ecm. Replaced the head, a burnt out turbo, a reprogrammed the ecm. Replaced all the jake springs when one of them broke. Damper is new. I believe everything else is original on my motor except for the oil cooler which the first owner replaced, this due to a factory recall - they had problems with oil coolers on MBN's - from what I was told, I don't know if that is true. Hopefully it will go to 1.5 million.

Cummins n14 here and still driving it with over 1.6 million miles. Never been overhauled. I have rolled bearings in it a couple times. Still original turbo too.

Chevron delo 400 engine oil and a Oilguard bypass oil filter is all I run in it. Tried Lucas once...gave worse oil analysis results.. Oil changed every 25000-35000 miles depending on laziness or time available.

This thing just keeps going like a tank.

Very good advice there...add the Paccar MX to the Volvo and the Merc....but in the case of the Paccar MX...you will need to donate your testicles to childless couples to keep it going as well....infact,you won't need them as you will be divorced, bald, broke and girlfriendless as you spend all your time and money trying to keep it going
