Ignorance and apathy can, and probably will, spell the end of careers. It's a shame because CSA 2010 is very simple actually....as far a CYAing is concerned. The FMCSR has NO new regulations borne out of CSA 2010! Basically, if it was wrong to do something then, it's wrong to do it now. The difference is how data from inspections and crashes are used to prompt interventions, safety measurement (scores) and enforcement.

Bottom line: If a driver doesn't understand, intuitively (common-sensically) the severity and potential danger of his/her actions when behind the wheel, regardless of regulation, well.....

I haven't started driving yet so I don't have hands on experience with the industry but I've been a pretty good reader/student for over 50 years. Everything, repeat everything, I've read (easily over 1000 pages at this point) about CSA 2010, in one way or the other points to DRIVERS as the focus of the "initiative". Early research (2002, maybe even before) on the feasibility and validity of an enforcement model as huge as CSA 2010, directly or indirectly (in some cases, subversively) refers to drivers as the problem although the research is cloaked in "carrier focus".

I'll stop here before I start a rant....not a rant about drivers! I'm beginning to doubt the wisdom of the early brain trusts at DOT and the predecessor agency of FMCSA.

I heard about it long before I got on this board. I have learned a lot more about it from some of the links and information that have been provided from people here though. My point being whether you do it on a board like this, land line magazine, OOIDA membership, trucker news radio or whatever, you should know what is going on in your profession. Especially one such as ours that constantly changes.

Maybe I'm not the "norm" but I have always tried to keep up on things in this industry so I know whats going on and I would do the same in any other profession if i had one instead of this. Just my theory that has always served me well.

Oh i agree. I have been utterly shocked and impressed by how much research you seem to have done on this whole career change your making. You will do just fine.

You've hit on one of the rant-provoking issues I have with DOT/FMCSA. Again, I won't do it (rant) but here's part of the source of my anger. (BTW, when I wrote about "ignorance and apathy" I was talking about ignorance in the broader sense of the word, as in, "ignorance of the law is no excuse".)

DOT/FMCSA will soon launch an "initiative" which, if effective, will cause many drivers to lose their source of income. While I'm in favor of getting dangerous drivers off the roads, I'm not in favor of a sneak attack to accomplish the task. CSA 2010 has been simmering for 8+ years now. It literally came in on the heels of FMCSA's inauguration (Jan 1, 2000). Why, for crying out loud, are drivers only now learning about it? Wouldn't it have been more fair and humane to give excessive fair warning long before now.
There are plenty of drivers out there, I believe, who could have and would have mended their ways long before now (gee, DOT, think of the lives that could have been saved).
Sure, there are idiots who can but won't change (those are the ignorant ones in the more common sense of the word)....good riddance! But....(okay, but it was a mini-rant)

Well so far, nothing has changed how we do and transmit our inspection reports, They get transmitted right after the inspection. In our state we are in the dark about the new system, I get most of my info from you guys on the forum and reading up on it on line!! We are scheduled to get updated and trained on it this this summer. :biggrin_2552: I"ll keep you guys up on anything I get that can help you.

Thanks, I don't look at CVE's as being from the "dark side". You have a job that needs to be done. I don't cringe when I see "scales open".

In truth, years ago, I nearly pee'd my pants at an "OPEN" sign. But that was back when I worked for a guy that handed Us the keys and a book on how to run around every scale in the country! 1980
