It’s a shame I never took pics. I pretty much had to damage a car in every way possible to become a good car hauler on the old beat up equipment I got to use at the bottom of the employee list. Broke the frame on one truck which was probably already on it’s way there when it happened. I literally had to find out what the quirks were in a different POS a few times a week when I was jumping trucks. Talk about some hard learning curves.

Fun times back in the day when the terminal's spare equipment becomes your new bid truck. Every driver above you on the seniority list had to tell you what they hated most about having to run your new bid truck for a few days. No one ever wrote the truck up for repairs because it wasn't their problem. Spare equipment was treated more poorly than a rental car.

Equipment is what has kept me away from Jack Cooper all these years. :???:

If you want a Peterbilt, don’t go to Cooper. Although they do have some at several terminals now. I had a nearly 20 year old refurbished Volvo when I was there and it worked just fine for me. I would have bought one just like it when I became an owner op if I could have found one as nice for sale. I didn’t like it as much as I do my Pete, but I paid almost $300,000 for my Pete so I better like it. I did have some absolute junk in Ft. Wayne when I first hired in there, but in their defense they had just got the GM traffic from Allied and didn’t have the equipment to haul it yet. I drove company trucks for years that most people wouldn’t consider driving, but I was always there for the money. Now some companies pay great and have good equipment, but many didn’t back in the day. 3BE7B564-5B3C-4082-96D1-BBB34DA04C62.png

I feel your pain. When I was a rookie carhauler I was lucky if I got to keep a truck for a week. Moving 36 portable straps and all my gear every time sucked, but eventually I got to stay in a truck for a while.

Sounds about right. It seems all the union companies outside of UPS just keep old equipment around to punish the drivers lol

I thank our invisible landlord in the sky I got out before straps became the thing. Took me having to go to a split shift and work nights to get the same truck every day but it worked out for the best I guess.

That Allied equipment in Chicago and northern Illinois they picked up when they went bankrupt for the final time was probably the worst equipment on the road lol.

Cooper got the equipment when they bought us. My Allied rig was old but well maintained, loaded very easy and ran 75 MPH. 34ED43E4-8A6A-446F-9DE5-8C61EF8A0F45.png
