Probably worth buying a second car just for commuting unless it's a home every night gig

Took me 4 yrs to bid a 1pm with Wed,Thursday off.
Another 5 to get a 10am w fri, sat off.
Could have gotten a earlier start with weekend off but this suited our needs better.
In a 30 person barn I'd guess 6 years average

We've had one day opening since we started here 5 years ago and that was only because someone quit. One of the day guys is talking about wanting to work nights. We had a new hire quit and The girl who took his 10am shift would probably take the other guys 5am shift, Tuesday through Saturday. The only way he would get a night spot is if I wanted the 10am spot which is Thursday through Monday. I work the 9pm start thurs night to tuesday morning. The only people that quit a new hires. We still have the original 4 that were the first drivers hired here and they arent going anywhere. the other 3 are me and the other 2 that haven't even been here a year yet.

Bids for starts are subject to turnover.
All it takes is a senior night guy going to days to upset the apple cart and send you backwards.:)

    Our plant is union.
No progression and even while training you receive full wage and benefits.
They have a few guys that want and like to train, but i am not one of them.
Truth told I was to be gone before this winter but was asked to stay as we had lots of new hires early 2024. I really have turned off on the winter work..I may leave before the day is out.lol

Ask as many questions as you need to, thats part of the point of this thread. There's going to be alot of guys retiring in the next few years, we'd love to get some good people onboard and get them fully trained BEFORE all that experience walks out the door.
