We are on double time and a half today. I'm trying to get the day driver to come in early, so I can start early. She got sick yesterday and no one knows if she is coming in today. The run I have tonight is our longest single day run. Between equipment issues and them wanting to feed the US cryo guys over us, hours have been scarce the past few weeks. We have an employee coming off of light duty tomorrow, so its gets even better.

Had some excitement last week. The trailer that sat for 4 weeks, waiting for the mobile mechanic to fix the brakes on it, then refix what he missed, caught fire about a mile away from the terminal, when I took it on its maiden voyage.I did my pretrip and looked at the second disc brake the he replaced the rotor on. Yup new rotor. Did a static test and did a coast test with the engine off. No leaks, no grinding, no sense of dragging. loaded the trailer and took off down the road. Made it to the onramp and I saw fog coming out the back of the trailer, just like every time I load and its humid outside. Got about maybe a 1/4 down the road and thought , this doesnt look right and looked for a place to pull over and got out and saw the new rotor was red hot and burning. Blasted it with the extinguisher and dumped all my soda, water and juice on it. woke the boss up and told him, then sat for almost 3 hours waiting for an onservice mechanic to come back the brake off so I could limp it back to the yard. n the Turns out they reversed a line when they reassembled the brake. Then The Trailer sat for a week and we think they fixed it. No one knows. The Boss is on vacation and we dont want to bother him until he gets back. We had another trailer, the new one thats not even 6 months old, already had the pump grenade, so its up at Fife being repaired. No ETA on it.

I started in September and had a whopping 2 loads training on oxygen and never touched another LOX trailer since. Never got to do one solo, so I'm not comfortable doing it solo and theres only one guy here I trust to teach me. Its been hard to get with him to do a LOX load or 2. I actually thought about going up to Fife and seeing if I could training up there, since that would be thorough and the 'Linde way'. I only have 4 more months left on my apartment lease so I'm researching harder now for a potential move. I made a contact on the east coast who has worked at most of the terminals I am considering over there and he's been with Linde a long time. I know several west coast guys as well. Hopefully I'll get some good info in the next few months and be able to decide where I want to go from here.

    Hope youre all well.

Had the same thing happen to me recently with disc brakes on a fuel trailer. Blew an airbag and didn’t hear it. Got a mile down the road and sparks were flying. Pulled over on 30 across from KinderMorgan and all 4 rotors on the back axles were glowing orange and there was flame. Had to use a fire extinguisher on it.

So when I got on at 998( Inver Grove MN) there were 20 others here.
We had floated between 18 and 24 drivers during my 15 years here.
They just put on #34 last week and 35 is in the process.
We have 2 out on comp( most likely waiting on settlement)and another on long term disability who probably won't come back but may for a day to officially retire and I'm gone in December.
Still leaves them short on the desired number of drivers of 35.

Not privy to the business decisions but have heard it's to reduce the OT and another has told us they are redistricting the boundaries for KC and Chicago, but we have always done some of their stops..We already have seen a decrease in OT and layovers.

These large companies take such a long time to analyze costs vs market conditions, and the manbun skinny jeans wearing analysts, fresh out of school, who report their findings, are the only ones corporate will listen to.
That and the planning by AI software has made the job a bit of a pia.
They will learn eventually but it's us drivers who suffer through these changes...
    As someone once said..Serenity Now!
