Its a much slower procedure and really takes a bit of learned experience to understand what's taking place inside a vessel you can't see.
We differentiate a warm from a hot tank from an initial fill.
Drivers can fill a warm tank if certain conditions are met and the criteria followed but hot and initial fills are always tech assisted fills.

Basically you will introduce a small amount of liquid or gas while venting and allow it to evaporate or gas off, one purge or shot at a time.
Don't want to shock a vessel, possibly damaging it, cracking the inner and losing it's integrity and also allowing the liquid to boil off.

Normal fill is about an hour to one and a half and a hot or initial can go 5 or 6 hours depending on the techs assessment.

A quick Google search (and an untrustworthy AI Overview) mentions to add a tiny amount of product to tank slowly in order to cool off the tank before adding more faster. It makes sense to me, but I'd also like to know more specifics.

This is the just of it without going into specific details and also if it’s hydrogen you can extend that time to more then 5-6hrs easily.

    Friend and scythe08 Thank this.

Usually a hot tank has to be filled slowly because the pressure in the tank will shoot up from the cold liquid you put in. Depending on how hot the tank is, it could be a very long process before you get to start filling like normal. Its constantly putting liquid in and then blowing the tank's pressure down until you get it to where the tank no longer has a pressure spike and that let's you know the tank is cooled down.

If you dont follow proper procedures you can pop the safeties or even Crack the inside of the tank.

    Somewhat happy this morning.
Plant down for scheduled maintenance so I'm running over to Indiana for a AR pickup. About 500 each way.
    2 days of windshield time.
Weather still good here but talking snow next week.

Friend, RockinChair, scythe08 and 3 others Thank this.

The ongoing (@#* show continues here. Cant say anything more than what you've already heard. Got a bad feeling about this winter.

    Yet we keep moving on..lol
These cryo companies have always been seat of the pants operations.
The disconnect between corporate and operations is astronomical and sometimes I don't see how things get communicated.
Winter will be interesting here in MN.
We have 21 guys w less than 5 yrs experience including 12 who've been hired this year alone.
1 from Texas and 2 from Florida who have no winter driving experience.
New guys won't go on overnights and one said he was too new to run to Chicago..lol
Several stated they would quit if forced to run in the snow or do layovers.

I have 5 more weeks here but will be interested to keep up with plant news as winter hits.
