About curves, it just seems I see a lot of fuel tankers blowing through curves at the same speed as cars so that's why I was asking.
-
One thing to note about tankers and curves. Is if baffled or not. Because one causes the contents to more likely cause a rollover vs the other if you drive like a Amazon driver on curves.
-
Maybe it's the Amazon drivers I've been seeing driving fuel tankers around curves.
-
Is that clique nation wide?...because I've seen that same Airgas position posted in different cities across the U.S.Last edited: Aug 20, 2026

Are there any baffled cryo tanks?
-
Only other company I know that does a 3/1 schedule is Modern Piano Moving.

Multi-compartment trailers are a lot different than a baffled single compartment and can’t even really be compared to a smooth bore. And you have no way of knowing if the Amazon fuel drivers were loaded or empty unless you saw them pull in to make a drop.
My trailer is 3/1.5/2/3. If I load 7500 gallons of diesel and I load it 3/0/1.5/3 you can’t feel any sloshing or anything because the compartments with product in them are mostly full. If I spread it out into all 4 compartments you might feel it a little but it would still be way different than any form of single compartment trailer. -
I think all cryo tanks are baffled

Are Cryogenic Trailers Baffled?
Yes — most modern cryogenic transport trailers are designed with baffles to help maintain product stability, reduce sloshing, and protect the insulation and tank integrity during transit.
Why Baffles Are Used
Cryogenic liquids like liquid nitrogen (LN₂), liquid oxygen (LOX), and liquid argon (LAR) are extremely dense and can move violently inside a tank when the trailer accelerates, decelerates, or turns. This sloshing can:
- Damage the multi‑layer vacuum insulation
- Cause pressure fluctuations that stress the tank
- Reduce payload capacity and efficiency
How Baffles Work
- Static baffles: Fixed partitions that create separate liquid zones.
- Dynamic baffles: Moving or flexible elements that adapt to liquid movement.
- Integrated with insulation: In many designs, baffles are part of the super‑insulated tank construction to also help manage heat transfer and condensation DSW Gas Cylinder.
Manufacturers such as DSW, Chart Industries, Taylor‑Wharton, and Polar Tank Trailer all specify baffled designs for their cryogenic trailers DSW Gas Cylinder+3. These trailers are built to codes like EN 13530/TPED, ASME VIII, and DOT MC338, which often require or recommend baffle systems for safety and performance.
Additional Features
Many cryogenic trailers also include:
- Cryopumps and pressure‑building vaporizers to manage liquid levels and prevent overfilling DSW Gas Cylinder.
- Flexible inlet/outlet hoses and filters for safe transfer operations DSW Gas Cylinder.
- Ergonomic piping layouts to reduce maintenance needs Taylor-Wharton.
