I've never been required to have a TWIC and my experience has been that the sites requiring a TWIC are the biggest pains to deal with. Take from that what you will.
I'll get mine some day, I'm sure...... /s

TWIC card?
Ask your to-be employer that same question.
Then let us know what they say....

When I asked a week or 2 ago. Was told not required but will reimburse if I get it.viper822004 Thanks this.

I use my TWIC at 2 refinery's that are on a waterway, considered a port, and a chemical complex that requires a DL be left but takes the twic
viper822004 Thanks this. -
I’ve had twic and let it go probably 3 times. I could count on one hand how many times I’ve actually used it. Out of those, the sites would still let you in if you didn’t have it, you just needed an escort. I’m in Socal so not like I’m not near waterfronts.

So far at current job twice needed a escort. One because shipper in Georgia was at a port. Second was a receiver in Virginia sort of same thingCali kid Thanks this.

Dealing with dry van work I could see if maybe being used more. But working tankers fuel, oil, cryo, and chemicals not so much.

I had to use my TWIC everytime I went to Vopak, Long Beach to load caustic,Kinder Morgan in Richmond, CA and several times unloading at airports. I vaguely remember another weird time when I was asked for it, and I want to say it was in nevada somewhere, but I honestly cant remember. Calikid is right, I used it much more when I was Dryvan
Cali kid Thanks this. -
Hey that’s funny, way back when I use to pull oil out of Vopak in Long Beach. Don’t remember if we were required to have a TWIC. That’s when I found out how badly I was underpaid after talking with the Univar drivers!
Also use to load oil down near Long Beach somewhere I believe it was called Nustar. That was the only place that I had been to that you had to actually slide your card, put your pin, and give biometric scan.scythe08 Thanks this. -
I got a TWIC card just in case if I ever need it. It’s a good thing to have. If you apply at a job that will want you to get in the future and you already have it, they’ll definitely pick you over other applicants that don’t have it. One company that does dry bulk near me wants you to have it. All the fuel terminals and container ports near me require the TWIC card.
RockinChair and scythe08 Thank this.
