Hey everybody. I have a potential job offer from Genox West Transportation. It would be for a day shift. 6 AM start time. I’m at a dilemma though because they don’t pay time and half over 40 hours. The pay rate is good. $33/h. The benefits are somewhat lousy too. Like $70 per week for middle individual health insurance plan for $3,000 deductible. They have a cheaper plan for like $30 per week, but the deductible is a ridiculous $6,000. I pay a little less where I’m currently at for a $1,500 deductible. The main killer here is the lack of time and half. It would also be a 45-55 minute commute depending on traffic. It’s all back roads. So more wear and tear on my vehicle plus more for fuel. My current job is only 12 miles away compared to 25-27 miles for this one. I’m going to have to do some calculations and see if it’s worth the switch compared to where I’m working now.

I’d say you take it for the cryo experience or wait for a spot to open up at a private fleet. If that’s even in your area, otherwise stay where you’re at. I took a $4hr pay cut to get out of fuel and into cryo but I asked if we would get the same pay as the senior drivers in the long run. They said yes so I gave them the benefit that I didn’t have cryo experience. It was easier for me to decide as I knew the company I was at was going downhill fast.scythe08, viper822004, Gearjammin' Penguin and 2 others Thank this.

It’s tough to get hired where I am at but they made an exception to a new hire we just got because he was pulling cryo for one of the contractors.
-
So I say take it if you’re serious of getting into cryogenics. It will give you experience and an opportunity to get hired by one of the big cryo companies.

And if you take it and move on later, it will make the training, and you'll still have to be trained, at one of the manufacturers fleets so much easier and quicker.viper822004 Thanks this.

That video of the guy unloading liquid nitrogen. Seemed to make it sound more steps then needed. Unless it's the trailer. Because in that video he was standing there quickly moving 2 valves to keep pressure. Meanwhile just really needed to touch one every now and then

I think it’s the recirculating valve and discharge valve which have to be done simultaneously to maintain pressure or you will make the pump lose prime. Cavitation.
-
What I was shown. I think the recirculating valve you just need to move it every now and then. One way or the other. To keep around 30-40psi.
-
Recirculating valve has to be completely closed while unloading so you can reach 150 or higher.
I think you’re talking about the pressure builder valve to keep the trailers tank pressure at 30 psi while offloading. -
I do need to find better ear protection. The things I was given. Very much hurts after awhile. Because it's pushing against my head. Having glasses doesn't help
