This is the one that we had the most problems with by far. Either the tank was blocked by employee cars, the companies own trucks, by trailers, or by contractor vehicles, or a combination of. Never underestimate someone's stupidity. The Hostlers here were awesome at moving trailers out of my way the second they saw me pull into the yard. They were a great bunch of guys for how small and super busy that yard was. It really sucked when there was an trucker with a full sized sleeper parked near the end.

Once There was a contractor parking 5 feet off the fence to the left there and he was in the way. nothing in front of him, no reason for him to park 5 feet from the fence, there were other vehicles parked there pulled all the way to the fence. I advise the hostler the vehicle is in the way and they start looking for him. 20 minutes later, with me about to leave, they find him. he walks up glaring at me, gets in his truck and pulls up the fence and sits in it glaring at me. I back in and start getting set up and he backs to his original position and then gets out to leave, now blocking me in. Both the Hostler and the shift supervisor were out there and both started yelling at him, him yelling back. The supervisor got on his radio and called 3 forklifts over, had them line up behind him and just looked at the guy and then told him to go park outside the plant and walk back in. He could either do it by himself or they would help him. The place was a PITA, but the people there were really cool. They also had an awesome food truck show up there, but , unfortunately, we had to nick name it the diarrhea dragon for obvious reasons. :(

What I'm gathering from this thread is that accessibility by a transport truck is the last thing that management and engineers think about when they decide where to place the tank(s), if they consider it at all.

Yes, but you also have to understand that these buildings were already here and so when our sales people get a new customer it’s wherever the tank fits the best. Some buildings can barely fit a tank haha

And sometimes these tanks have been there over a decade, sometimes longer and the plants have changed over the years. But yeah, sometimes they had to put them wherever they would fit

A Purdue plant went to had new tanks. But was actually setup nice. Even though we realized after unloading. They keep pressure of the tanks different vs what we need to keep loading it

I thought when I was at AP they did a decent job when we got a new customer. They would do a site survey with safety and terminal manager, extend fill lines, no low mounted connections, label tank, lighting etc and yes they did flat out reject some customers for safety. As the years went on AP owned tanks started to become more standardized as far as layout of valves as well.

We have some small tanks in places they shouldn't be too.
Pull in and back out, blind side and obstructed.
I call the local cops to provide traffic control.
I guess that's why we get the big bucks..lol

So I think I almost got everything down. Currently with another trainer because previous one was sent on home time. Unloading I currently don't feel 100% with. Doesn't really help new trainers trailer is different. But quickish found out where the right valves are. It really needs service done to it. It refused to start today. Trainer did something and it started. But rpm kept going up and down. From 1700 to around 1300. Back and forth. It was fueled up recently.
