Back before computers, when you would just wait 15min after opening pump inlet. Guys would just open it and go this is hell on the pump bearings as they don’t cool enough to seat. Overtime this will cause them to leak and with LOX well you see the hazards.

Yes Airgas has LIN,LOX,LAR drivers use a separate bag with clean tools, gloves, and seals just for LOX.

Only 15 minute cooldown? Me and my codriver do 20 minutes for our LAR trailer. Never had a problem with our pump seal.

We also only do 15 minutes. If we wait longer, we risk of the pump freezing over.

After purges we do 6 -7 minutes on electrons and 10 minutes on hydraulics.
Meters countdown and don't allow rheostat to start pump until cooldowns are complete.
Despite this seal still leak with some regularity.

    scythe08 and viper822004 Thank this.

It was 10-15 min cool down when I was at AirProducts. This was strictly for the pony motor trailers as going past the 15 min could freeze the pump and since the pony motors aren’t high torque like hydraulics you would be screwed.

Can any of you Mad Scientist Cryo guys explain why LOX is so sensitive to petroleum? I'm not a chemist, so please break it down so a dumb trucker can comprehend it.

LOX being an oxidizer makes any kind of fuel that much more volatile. Since these are 2/3 of the fire triangle, all that is needed from there is heat and or ignition.

When I say fuel that can be anything from a soft road cone, asphalt, grease on your gloves, oil etc.. IMG_2690.png

if its like the one I had with a timer, you could clear it...its less practical on the multi stop. The meter I have now hasnt worked in couple months, they are kinda handy though.

I think out of certain areas they have "sort" drivers now, out a week at a time, solo.
