Daycabber pulling auto parts. I'm usually running close to that 70 hour limit most weeks, although, I got out of one run (auto parts are just about always daily dedicated also). Running 2 states, and 1 province.

The only thing: we get paid waiting time, but otherwise, it's paid by the run.

Oh, and if you want to talk deadlines and delivery windows, the fine for being late with, say, a Chrysler load.......

$4,000 per minute. We get an exception due to circumstance beyond out control (IE border problems, traffic backups, etc), but, if your simply late because your taking your sweet ol' time.........

Finally, yes, daycabs have a MUCH rougher ride (the only time I drove a bunk tractor since I started working for this company was a rental unit). I think the shorter wheelbases, combined with their lighter mass, and less suspension under the cab (there's less cab to suspend), makes the ride ALOT rougher.

I dont take breaks. I eat when loading or unloading (have 15-20 minutes to just sit anyway). bathroom breaks same way, not till the truck is stopped and hooked up. time is money, and I'm on the clock.
some of our drivers here do take full meal break. stop everything they are doing for 30 minutes, is their personal time (lunch/meal break) but not all. the company I work for few years ago used to take half hour off clock time, assuming you were taking time for meal break, but they do not anymore. dont know why the change in company policy.
who I work for is also 100 mile radius. so we have the simple log sheet. over all I like it. can see pro's and con's to both local and otr, I agree is matter of finding what works best for you.
I think I'd like to try long haul, or maybe ride along sometime OTR to see if I'd like it. I'm still very new, have a Lot to learn and experience yet! lol
