Well, in NJ trucks are banned from Garden State Pkwy north of the 105 MM.
In New York, trucks are banned from any “parkway” period, while anything marked “expressway” is fine.

I lived up in PA for a while and started off doing food service for GFS out of their Pottsville terminal. NYC, (times square)D.C, you name it, we went there. I was a rookie and terrified, but I managed.Out of an orientation class of 18, only 6 of us remained. I got a route that ended at Dulles airport. Mind you, this was mostly night driving, it's too congested otherwise.
After food service, I went ltl. I was a city driver (p+d) then linehaul for Estes. My first night solo pulling doubles they sent me to the NY yard and with doubles you do not wanna get lost, but I made it. I regularly pulled doubles across New England, the PA turnpike and such. Now I'm an o/o based out of Atl but I'll take any good paying load to NY and beyond.
Bottom line, trucks deliver in the NE just like anywhere else. You'll get used to it. Don't panic, call and ask for directions if in doubt and if you can, don't be a solar powered driver. Get in and get out at night, it'll be a piece of cake.Ruthless, Brettj3876, dogtrucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
They don't care for left turns in Michigan either. Typically, you turn right instead and then make a U-turn. It's more progressive I guess than just turning where you want to go.06driver Thanks this.

Parkway, no way.
Expressway, yes way.bzinger Thanks this. -
Never be afraid to turn the four ways on and set the brakes to collect more data and take a deep breath. No need to get über stressed out. Low bridges, narrow and/or restricted roads, moronic drivers, high beams, pedestrians, emergency vehicles, traffic, tolls etc etc are all part of the run. Finding parking is a nightmare. See if you can sleep the shipper/receiver. Lots of idling restrictions too. Plan your route very carefully before leaving and do not rely on GPS alone.

Ya know, this is a typical response to a typical situation;
Fear follows hype and pure baloney, then the thoughtless, repetative responses of those that have been taught to defend it.
Speaking as one whom lives in the "Dreaded Northwest", I am able to sort hype and pure bull from what is really happening (at least as far as driving conditions are concerned).
Over and over, through the years, some schill posts about his near death experiences while up in New England, and then so many other gentlemen quickly take the bait and run with it. So much so, that many carriers have decided to give a little (extremely little) "Northeast Pay" just to quell most fears. Strictly a token; nothing more.
What a great example of this great country in general; multiply these similiar actions regarding any other topic and no one questions anything; just jump right in and baste in fear... just like most everybody else.
All the while, real life just simply goes on. And on.
Truth be told, driving in the northeast is absolutely no different in any way then driving the rest of the country. True, there are some (I said 'some') unique circumstanses to the area, but certainly no more than anywhere else. How about the dreaded "LA Freeways"? Or the dreaded "Wyoming Prarie Winters"? Or the "Texas Highway Patrol Robber/Rapers"? How about the dreaded "Cabbage Death Chute of no Return" in central Oregon?Last edited: Apr 25, 2018
Ruthless Thanks this. -
10 4 anything complicated or I am uncertain about, I write on my windshield in dry-erase.
Perversely, my nav often crashes in complex regions and more perversely, the reset button is inaccessible while driving; bad f-n design. I gotta find a more reliable nav.DSK333 Thanks this. -
I am deeply sorry for the downfall of Western Civilization - it's clearly my fault.
