Never gave this consideration until I saw a news report out of Omaha today that stated metro transit has cancelled service to several routes because they can't find qualified drivers .
Also stated that waste collection companies are having the same problem.

That Amazon article I posted speaks to that nicely... Amazon pay hike raises stakes in battle for truck drivers

How might this affect trucking? The same way it affects construction, warehousing, retail, and other industries battling for blue-collar workers in a US economy with a 3.9 percent unemployment rate. As Amazon’s fulfillment and delivery empire expands, it pulls potential workers, especially younger employees, away from other transportation businesses.

Trash firm around here's been desperate for a while.

No pun intended but a lot of their trucks are trash.

You have to put a big number in front of someone to get them to give up a showroom condition Cascadia to drive a 12 year old Columbia daycab with ripped seats and faded paint.

That's just comparing tractors. Obviously the stench of the cargo is a whole nother matter.

If Waste Management got rid of their driver-facing cameras, I would consider them if I wanted to go local.

Yep totally agree, frist they what to control your every move, and threatening to fire right on spot for any mistake. Then they cry that there is driver shortage.

As a business owner I have no sympathy for other companies when they cry driver shortage, while at the same time not paying what the driver is worth and micromanaging them to the point they quit.
