The shortage is the fact that large companies have very high turnover rates with tons of trucks sitting idle not making money and loads needing to move. That’s the shortage, companies need more drivers....but they still don’t bring the pay up.

It’s crazy especially for OTR. It was a job that was always hard on your family and would socially handicap you but back then they paid real well I would hear about drivers being paid 25-30 grand a year back in the 80s. Heck that’s what the mega carriers pay now 30 almost 40 years later.

Yeah but 65 k/year for 70 h a week (reset on the road?) is like 2 35k/year jobs and no overtime! For all that risk and responsibility??? Got up at 4 am today to make 5 am delivery.How many people do it? And I am still here.5h and 4 minutes.I feel like I don't wanna do it anymore!

If you don't know what you are doing, you would grab those cheap loads and complain here all day long. I live in Houston and never had a problem to book decent load to get out. Especially first 6 months of this year was crazy. I remember beginning of June booked a load from Houston to Columbus Ohio, 1150 miles for $3,000. Never booked anything under $2.00 per mile, but I admit it is super slow now. A lot of people heard these kind of rates and bought trucks and joined the industry. Here we go, we have more trucks again.. Also I don't believe driver shortage. It took me 6 months to find a driver. I did job postings different web sites and also pm drivers who looking jobs here. Even I give guaranteed $1,500 for weekly which is written agreement, still had no luck. Some drivers called and said they want at least 100K a year and they said they have only 3 to 4 years experience. I feel either these people are troll or everyone in this industry lose their mind. Unfortunately whatever you do is not enough for some drivers. They usually go get screwed somewhere then come here and complain how horrible truck companies etc..

The Volitility is so drastic. We’re complaining now . Wait till it gets real tight. When ? Who knows . Like mentioned many will fail. Just looking around this year while getting my IRP and listening to these Guys talking about $100 k lines of credit and New Trucks Trailers etc. What a drastic change . Amazing

I am tired of hearing about a supposedly 100,000 driver shortage we got in the US, well how come that with so many trucks shorts that we supposedly have, and having a gallon of fuel at $3.50 average nationwide, the brokers don't want to pay more than $1.50 a mile for any trip in Texas and $1.00 in North Florida? ($0.85 in South Florida), It's not that when you have a shortage you have to pay more to compensate for the trucks you don't have? Or am I wrong? I just spend a whole day last week trying to get a decent trip to get out of Texas (around $2.00 a mile) and couldn't find any, that is just after coming out of North Florida at $ $1.02 a mile. I am seriously thinking in going home and park my truck, there is no money to make with actual prices. More than the shortage rumor is made it so they can keep the market saturated of truckers (expecting to make a profit w/o really making it) and keeping transport (and goods) prices artificially low. Anybody has any idea how many O/O goes bankrupt any given year?.

Well, I am not so happy now, still got a load but not the good one anymore, the broker I got the load with, was honest enough to let me know that somebody else bid $1.85 a mile and his boss cancel me and give it to them, so no load to OR no more, but DAT saved my ###, I have been looking to it all week and it was nothing there, today it shows one load and I call it and get it, it goes to WA, not Oregon and for $1.00 a mile, but on the other side it's pretty light, 12,000 pound vs the one to Oregon, 42,000. So I am picking this one to Oregon tomorrow morning and unloading there next Monday when everything is ok. At least it covers the fuel and a little bit more.

It gets better. First three months are the hardest. First year, you learn the better companies to run for. Hang in there.
