Don't down a college degree. Your husband was fortunate enough to find a trade in which he didn't require college. Some people it works for, some people it does not. I am college educated and now I drive for a living. It doesn't hurt to have a college degree.

Oh quite contrare. There is a shortage. If there wasn't a shortage, every load would be covered. The thinking that shelves would be bare, is rather tunnel visioned. It's always a laundry list of loads available. Even if they all paid adequate money, it's still not enough drivers to cover them all.
-
Maybe I worded that wrong and should have said sweat shop wages. Either way the same point is made. Drivers are not paid what they should be making.Trucking in Tennessee Thanks this.
-
Of course there is a driver shortage, if we had lots of drivers companies would not pay decent wages and treat you like crap. They would try to dumb down the job with auto transmissions and electronic monitoring.
Wait a minute........Canadianhauler21, DOGSLIFE, Axl99 and 1 other person Thank this. -
It's not a bad career path. It's steady money. There is money to be made, and it's really not that difficult of a job if you don't get homesick easily. This line of work, more than any line of work, is all in what you put into it. The idea to make this not suck is to stay out of truck stops other than to eat, fuel, and shower. You have to learn how to use your time appropriately, and communicate. If you surround yourself with grumpy truckers, you will grow to hate this. It has been a pretty good experience overall for me. Get your experience, and find the right company. It can be fun

If there were lots of drivers, the pay would probably decrease.

And micromanagement.

They've been claiming driver shortage for decades. A little longer than storage capacity, I'm guessing.06driver and Oldironfan Thank this.

If I only knew where crabby patties were stored?OLDSKOOLERnWV and plankton Thank this.

This driver shortage is real this time. Just look at the rates. Who is working for a low paying rate ? I might be able to get you better pay.
