Just the way drivers are treated even before they're hired on tells those with brain cells that there is no driver shortage. If companies can treat people like dirt before they're even hired on, then there's no shortage of CDL drivers out there. The 'driver shortage' is a lie the companies use to get some kind of special treatment. Probably tax breaks. Maybe some kind of subsidies. No telling. I've never been allowed privy to those insider secrets. And there are a lot of insider secrets.

That's what I mean, not their parents. I'm not a millennial or one of their parents, squarely in between, but anyone who has a problem with the previous generation has no one to blame but themselves. Raise your kids, spoil your grandkids. Spoil your kids, raise your grandkids.

THERE IS NO DRIVER SHORTAGE. It's a ruse. The companies get something by lying and claiming there is a shortage. It's also a strategy the companies use to make drivers not question the reason any company is hiring. "We need drivers" says the ad. Well. Why does the outfit need drivers? Are they "growing"? Unlikely. "There's a driver shortage". Nope. There's no shortage. That's BS. "We don't treat our drivers like human beings and rip them off regularly." That's the real explanation.

It’s the 48 OTR segment that focus on longer freight moves (somebody has to do it) that has the most difficult time finding and keeping drivers. Very few good drivers also have the “life situation” to allow for this type of lifestyle. -
Theres a shortage of good drivers. By good I mean a driver with over five years of varied experience, a clean record, a stable job history, some mechanical ability, not a boozer or a doper, and a good work ethic.
There's a shortage of guys that will show up every day, do their job, not tear anything up, get along with people, and look for ways to make everything more safe and efficient.
There's definitely a shortage of people like that.
There's a shortage of drivers that can do OS off road work and not create a disaster every time they go out.
There's a shortage of tanker drivers, dry or wet, that take the extra care and time necessary to do a good job.
There's a shortage of flatbed drivers who can tie down and tarp, day after day in all kinds of weather, and still do a good job.
There's a shortage of drivers that really know how to chain up and drive in the snow. There's a shortage of drivers that know when not to drive in the snow.
There's a shortage of drivers that really know how to adjust brakes, change a marker lite, fix an air leak, change an alternator, and do tire work.
For us, as a company, there's always a shortage of drivers. That's why we work hard to hire good ones and try to keep the ones we have. We'd rather have a truck sitting for awhile than put some idiot in the seat that winds up costing us money.Lepton1, okiedokie, kemosabi49 and 5 others Thank this.
