Japan finally surrendered when they realized America could drop another “gadget” on them , but on Tokyo. Oh no there goes Tokyo ... that was where the Japanese royal family resided.

 

Ironic isn't it that we fire bombed Tokyo and over 100,000 were killed.....way more than the nukes, but ALL of those pilots didn't feel remorse.

 

The estimated death tolls of not dropping the nukes made it easier to justify dropping them. Lesser of two evils you might say. Also if you look at it from the allied perspective why should they allow another one of their soldiers to die when they have the means to stop it.
