Well, I'm pretty sure you've all seen my thread about "Cloverleaf", but I've been doing alot of homework. Seems like many of the foodservice places are also following these seniority "bid" structures/arrangements that many of the union and non-union, LTL shops have been doing.
It's probably nothing to those of you that have been doing the food-service thing for awhile, but it's definitely a trail of discovery for me.
Just my learning experience for the past months.

Yeah, i found that out too, almost ALL trucking companies use that union model (seniority bid). Which sucks.

    BUT

Nowadays with almost no one having any drivers it can work for you (it worked for me at MBM). The people who make the most money are the guys on the extra board. There is always more work than drivers. And as you cycle around running different routes, if you find a couple that really work for you that are open, you basically just take them. Makes your life easier cuz you know when to get up where to go etc and makes the dispatchers life easier because the same runs that were open are now always accounted for. And if the senior people wanted them, they could have taken them.

having said that, depends on how the extra board runs, if you're supposed to sit around literally all day and then they can call, well F that. You're the in demand guy, you want to work, tell them to keep you rolling and in today's world it should work for you.

and they all say "if you are on the extra board, you have to take the assignment" . Yeah, right. I mean, what are they going to do? fire you? it's food service, they are always short drivers. I figured that out pretty fast that you could say "no" and it always worked out.

It was a bit of a horror show at first. Kind of like looking out the window and noticing the undead hordes have grown in size. But after overcoming the shock and disbelief of the incoming onslaught, you figure in a strategy towards how to best deal with burdensome task and suddenly, it doesn't appear as bad as it first did!!
My Walking Dead analogies tend to help me a little better to ride these realities out!!

Got a rant for you. Their in the process of having autonomous trucks but they won't make a ramp that automatically pulls out and folds. That's some BS!

Speaking of autonomous trucks do you ever see those trucks being used in local food/beverage distribution or even trash trucks. I don't personally see it
