LoneCowboy,
You read my mind they keep doubling stuff up drivers and customers leave and it totally becomes a death cycle. Now I will say this about that what a difference a day makes Tuesday I was done with my last stop a little before 1:30pm why I even got home in time to watch In The Heat of The Night when it comes on at 3:00pm.
Today Wednesday wasn't bad for a Wednesday my Wednesday is a tad long it's a healthy amount of stops 15-16 stops and sometimes can be heavy today it wasn't actually overly heavy 15 stops and almost 100 miles. It's been awful weather wise up here just hazy and humid I really don't care for it.
Last Wednesday was great it was totally cloudy no sun and like 60 degrees it was perfect. This hot and hazy stuff sucks. Actually today went good, a tad long, but not unbearable it is what it is though not a whole lot I can do about it. Our refers are running like Mad although mine kept up pretty good today trailer was pretty cool all day heck it froze two bottles of water I put in the freezer compartment.
Any how have to get up at 0215am have a skip day school route tomorrow which isn't bad tomorrow has a lot cases, but stops are pretty dense and schools get a lot of chips and cereal and stuff like that. Tomorrow looks alright so that's cool. Just another hot day, I drive some International spare that's almost 10 years old and has no A/C or cup holder or anything else, it pulls kinda crappy too, but it doesn't matter it's dependable and it's an orphan truck that's been passed from warehouse to warehouse, but it's fine trailers refrigerated spend more time in the trailer then the tractor any how ha-ha! -
Hot out today been hot for a while now, I look up at the sky and see a funny looking sun with a sky full of haze. Decent day at work today 914 cases fully cubed out, but it wasn't bad all schools worked out well.
Shaggy Thanks this. -
I want to scream. Trailer loaded by moron. Or worse. And no good reason for it. Spent an hour after last stop today trying to fix it for tomorrow. Crap everywhere.
Never seems to get better.
They actually threw loose cases on top of multiple freezer pallets all the way to ceiling. No airflow. No wonder if wouldn't cool down on the way down. -

I'll go first, how/why did you get into food service over all the other kinds of trucking?
Well here's what brought me to it. I worked in the restaurant industry and readily read the trucking forums for years and I thought, well the food service drivers seem to make real good money and it's not as much screwing around like OTR trucking. So I thought well it's local/ semi local and has some fringe benefits and it's not OTR trucking so what the heck the food companies seemed the way to go. Local LTL doesn't totally appeal to me, but LTL line haul would be good, but the company I work for has our own line haul which is no different then LTL line haul so it all works out there.
So I thought the food companies would be good and while the work is hard and has it's stupidities none of it is a deal breaker it all has worked out and I make pretty good money. Sure there are higher paying trucking jobs then the one I have (there are also lower paying trucking jobs as well) There are higher paying trucking jobs in the food industry then the job I have, but there are also lower, but we have a pretty good deal we get paid good money, most yards the guys are not routed out for 12-14 hours however our yard things have been a mess for a little while and my average workday is 11 hours long, but I mean it wasn't that long ago where guys left early were done by 12-13-1400pm and the whole branches deliveries were done at the latest by 1400. Now because of extenuating circumstances were routed out till geeze 1600-1700 pm in certain cases were short drivers right now, but actually though I think they put the now hiring sign up and it was down for a while so now were back to hiring so that's good.
Heck last Monday I got back to the yard at 1700pm the next morning the fastest guy at our yard asked me when I got back and I said 1700 and he said "He goes you know it took me a while to I only got back an hour earlier then you did."
However it's good though I figured the nohazmat and not really on logs and all that jazz would be good (we are on logs because the company has everyone logged electronically, but it's good.)
Plus I get a discount on groceries and know of all the cool things we have for sale. -
Well who worked today on Labor Day? I know I did.
Actually there's a silver lining to all of that though. I had to work today we don't really get holiday's off however we do not really run full boar on the holiday's either.
The silver lining is while it stinks to work on the holiday it's usually not a hard day and they pay us extra they pay us holiday pay which is basically a paid vacation day off pay + normal pay for coming in, plus the traffic is about 90% less out on the road on my run today I was able to get around without really any trouble at all.
Plus while everyone else is groaning now because they have to go to work tomorrow I already have a day in under my belt. I am a day a head of the curve! -
oh yeah, I had to work too. traffic sucked on the freeways (everyone going home) and my resturants (all on the freeways) were getting killed, just killed. One I had to find a new way out, their parking lot was completely full.
but just like you, double dipping. Regular route pay plus the holiday. Probably made close to $800 for the two days.
but I got news!!!!!!!!!! (see next post)Mike2633 Thanks this.
