Your beer truck auto was probably a real automatic transmission, not an automated manual. Big difference.

My biggest whine about the Detroit trans is that it takes s o l o n g to shift and get back on the gas. When it shifts into eleventh and twelfth gears at 1300 rpms, going uphill, you tend to go nowhere pretty quickly. And most every one I've driven can be pretty temperamental. Have to be really careful pulling out into traffic, because they all tend to hesitate and then they kinda get lost and can't figure out which gear to be in. I have sat literally all the way across the road, waiting for the truck to go.

The iShift is lightning quick in comparison, and at least tolerable, but gear selection still leaves a lot to be desired. Some of ours can be manually shifted, but if I'm going to go through that effort...

My usual ride is from the oldest batch of trucks that we have. I don't know when it will be replaced, but I hope it's not until the dual clutch iShift hits the US market. I'm pretty sure the stick and clutch pedal are a thing of the past in the Mclane world.

Yeah, i couldn't figure out why people were #####ing about the autos, I had driven the Volvo I shift and really liked it,

and then I've been driving a couple different KW's with Eaton 10 speed auto's lately

Holy mother of god what a steaming pile of poo.

reverse is either all or nothing and man we're going to break king pins sooner or later. Heck I've actually been squirted out trying to get under the trailer. (not quite getting the kingpin and the trailer just pushes the tractor back forward). beyond stupid and slow, especially in low range. Every single freaking gear every freaking time, no matter what weight might be behind it. I call it the swiftee transmission. It's like being in a truck with a newbie.

and then, picking a gear when climbing? hell who knows, it just decides to downshift or upshift whenever it feels like it, 1800, 900rpm, who knows? But it's usually the wrong decision.

and let's not forget that ergonomic disaster of a push button shifter. Take your eyes off the road, look down, find the button that says manual, push it into manual, then still looking down, find the up or down button. Yeah, not like anything could happen in that 20 seconds or so while starting down a big hill with 80,000lbs.

and, at the end of the day, what's the point of a 10 speed auto? The whole point of a 10 speed is that it's tough, it's very hard to break so ti's great for newbies. Where as a 13 or 18 with those couple overdrives and tight gearing gets you better mileage and power in more situations but they are weaker and you should be a little more experienced. But an auto doesn't care, it doesn't miss shifts or grind gears, so why do a 10 speed?

Yeah the beer trucks were full blown automatic transmissions no different then a car. Worked really good I was thinking why do people not like these? Yes though I've seen videos from the 1990s from Eaton on there now extremely antiquated and economically obsolete first generation "auto shift system" yeah an automated manual is a whole different thing. Your right though once companies go auto or semi automatic that's pretty much it they don't go back. The shifter and 3rd clutch pedal are now old technology and on the way out. I've said it before and I'll say it again within 10 years for the most part especially in big corporate fleets manual truck transmissions will be a thing of the past.

At the end of July I'll have been at this job for two years. Not a bad place to work, the work isn't all that hard and the people are decent. Typically work 50-55 hrs a week, on occasion I'll do 60 or more, but those instances are few and far between. One of the benefits of the job is that it pays overtime. Not the usual time and a half after forty hours but time and a quarter after forty-five hours. Has anyone ever heard of that before?

Mondays are the worst since it's hard to get in bed early the night before. I work a split shift so I have 2 Mondays a week which makes it worse

I hate working Mondays. I would much rather work Saturday than give up my Sunday evening. That's when fun stuff with family and friends always seems to happen. Smokin' Sunday seems to happen at my house a lot, since I got my new kamado last year. Usually pork, but occasionally a brisket or chicken.

I have two Mondays as well, only they're Tuesday and Friday.
