We do not slip seat at GFS and you can always tell exactly who's tractor is who's, just by climbing into the cab. The only trucks that are slip seated are the spares and there awful. One just showed up in our yard today it was covered in road oil and grime totally dirty. The spares are worse then the normal trucks half the time.
That was the trash pile in my truck when I finally took it over and was cleaning it out and getting ready to make it my own.

Do any of you guys at your companies have it where once in a while they get on you guys for having dirty trucks? They haven't done it to us in a very long time and it doesn't apply to me anyhow, but I know there have been times where they have gotten on the entire yard because we had some really dirty trucks and they wanted them cleaned out.
I'll never forget when I worked at the beer company opening the passenger door of one of the trucks there one day and trash just falling out.
I had a new truck 70% of the time at the beer company (they did a lot of goofy equipment swapping and slip seating there) and the one day I got back and there was tobacco spit juice all over the cup holder of a brand new truck, nobody there cared they though ehh slip seating new old just trash them.
Rocks Thanks this. -
Well we dont slip, i Bounce between 3 trucks but there all mine and all clean. Boss man doesn't really say much, (he should) a small shop i used to work for did though, i had the oldest truck, kept it clean and neat, when a new truck came in and i got it, a older hand complained "why did he get the new truck?" The owner walked out and opened his pass door, crap fell out, then opened mine. He said "you ask again, and your in the old truck." (Something like that) i hate a dirty truck. Pride in your ride baby!
Rocks, Pintlehook and Mike2633 Thank this. -
Management has not gotten on us in a very very long time about truck cleanliness so they must be content with everything. When they say clean out the trucks all they mean is throw out your garbage dirt and dust and stuff are fine just throw out the garbage, that's all they care about.
Rocks Thanks this. -
When I was training with a trainer at USF. We did a stop that gave us food from a BBQ place. He would put his chicken bones in the driver side holder. No F's given.

This is how I keep the floor of "my" truck...

Sweep and wipe the floor almost everyday... Also do the windows every day after driving.... Hate dirty mirrors and dirty windshield...
Driving in WY today... not much traffic where I was... Love the open road!!

Alright something unprecedented has happened 2 days in a row of being a rider. That hasn't happened in the longest time I mean a long time. Actually I'm not complaining to much our rider pay is pretty fare and to me it's not a big deal I can't remeber the last time I was a rider. Tomorrow I'm back in the seat. Yesterday we did 1020 cases. Today 727 something like that. We had quite a few stops though.
Tomorrow I don't know how many the loads like 12,000lbs but we have stops going here there and everywhere it's a route I'm running totally blind, but the guy who's riding with me is new, but he's real good one of the veteran drivers said he's real good and I know he is so that's cool.
Anyhow that's that for that. -
Someone else would be driving it.

I'm not going to kid you. In this job during the week you'll likely have just enough time after your commute home to eat and go to bed.
That will be the big change you'll have to deal with if you decide to give up OTR. You get sleep where you park, while we have to deal with a commute to and from.
Errands and house chores will likely have to be reserved for weekends.Rocks Thanks this.
