They make more money. You're effectively getting 44c a mile instead of 39c a mile. (since you get 22c a mile but all miles, so you get paid while you sleep). You get tired enough you can sleep anywhere. bonk. Once I was out before the other guy hit 10th gear. earplugs help.
The worst place to get into I do every week. It's literally a 1/4 mile back with 2 to 4' walls on each side at a university with 3 different blind 45 deg corners. sucks something awful. And there's only one dock and you can't see if it's full or not until you back all the way in. Most places you drive in and turn around or do a turn and back. Traffic and cars are usually the biggest concern. And of course early mornings mean empty lots (which is a huge plus).
Rocks Thanks this. -
Haven't posted here in a couple of weeks. I work for a company that's similar to McLane, was doing 3 nyc runs a week as a team and just got tired of all the bs of manhattan. Told the big boss give me a new run or im out of here, of course they didn't want to see me leave so they gave me 2 runs to try out and a brand spanking new handcart. One is an eastern Long Island run that leaves monday night and gets back wed morning and the other run i haven't done yet is a maryland run that leaves friday 1am and gets back late saturday night.
These 2 runs are solo runs so Im getting paid more per case and per mile. Basically a 4 day work week grossing around 1300-1400. If i decide to stay here the pay will get better once im fully vested for their profit sharing program (employee Owned company) and they have cheap bennies also. not the best paying job but its a real relaxed atmosphere and that means a lot in its self, everyone up to the vp pretty much knows your nameLoneCowboy and Mike2633 Thank this. -
Today I had actually not a bad route, pretty good compared to the past couple of Thursdays heck I would take this Thursday again in a minute. Heck was BS's a little bit with the boss and another driver back at the yard by 12:30pm est today. Only problem with today I had no paper work for my entire load today it rubbed some customers the wrong way, but oh well such is life.

Total cluster fudge. Worked Thursday from 2:30am to 10pm. Yeah do that math. Took a Ryder guy to drive after I ran out of hours. I'm totally exhausted today.

thursday actually. Reefer broke down about 6am, i called in, they said to keep going. I get to albuquerque and "a tech will meet you there", but of course no one there has heard anything. By 4pm (and i'm running out of hours) and nothing really getting fixed, I said 'give me another driver and I'll get this stuff off the truck and as I ran out of hours he can drive. Worked until 9pm to get 800 pieces off the truck, left it at the shop and another trailer was towed down (bet that was spendy) from Denver to arrive at midnight (Yeah, remember, I called this in at 6am, clearly nobody but me thought it was a crisis) and they were supposed to switch it up. At 7am, i went to get the new trailer and finish the route.
yesterday was pretty much just sleepwalked thru.
the lesson, as always, ryder sucks. -

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my gawddddddddddd, That would be a bit scary.
don't think I would be interested in that at all. Although the hoodrats aren't usually up at 3 - 5 am when we're delivering. Still, company policy be dammed on that one. -
