Just wanted to get some experienced guy's input on what you think the average flow in GPM (Gallons Per Minute) is when we gravity drop gasoline (as opposed to diesel..).

I had this station I was delivering this week, and only 5000 gallons would fit in one tank at 90% ullage, and 2700 would fit in the other tank. Basically I had to split a compartment mid-flow, drain the hose, and then resume flow in the 2nd Regular tank. I timed the first 2000 gallon drop and it finished in almost exactly 5 minutes. 'Using that , I calculated about 400 GPM and then timed the last compartment , dropped half in the first tank and half in the last tank. It was almost exactly spot on and I didn't hit the overfill.

I was wondering if anyone has an exact figure on this.

I've had to do that before and it was around 300 game for my drop. There are variables as to the size of tank your dropping into and how empty it is. But a general idea is usually good enough

I use 400 G.P.M. One thing to remember, (On MY truck anyway) I drive a T&T. It's configured as follows. Truck is a one compartment 4000K tub. Trailer is 3 compartments as follows 2K/1K/2K. On a full tub (at the very beginning) you may be flowing 450/Min. and the last 1000 may be 350/Min. Most of the drivers I know use 400 G.P.M. BUT, The only way to KNOW is to time YOUR truck and trailer half a dozen times.

This is the exact same configuration my assigned truck is. It also seems like the tub, for example, drains much faster when I unload uphill. But thanks guys, it looks like 400 GPM is a safe enough number to account for variables..

We call that breaking a compartment and it's a pain in the ### walking the hose when you cut it off mid flow. It helps to crack a cam lock to let air in.

Yep crack both ears and walk over to the downspout and crack that too. Max airflow when you're in a hurry. It helps to park uphill of the tanks so your spills just end up running back into the tank.
