I get to travel through a lot of rural, small towns. There's always kids out in their front yards or at mom and pop convenience store looking at the trucks passing by, doing violent arm motions to try to get us to honk our horns. I always do it, they always love it! I don't do it in the city much because there's too much traffic and as everyone else already said, it can scare the bejeezus out of a person that isn't expecting it. I don't want to be responsible for causing someone else to crash.

I never do this. I just can't shake the notion that them kids are just doing that to make fun of me. I mean, God only knows knows what their Starbucks-drinking, Mercedes-driving, yuppie stick-up-their-butt parents might have told them about all those lowlife truck drivers a.k.a. pond scum.

And if they didn't before, they'll certainly be sure to say good things about the truck driver who wouldn't even honk the horn for the kid, right?

8 to 10 year old kids in a mining town where no-one I have
EVER seen are making fun of you? This is very judgmental thinking. Maybe teenagers would be "guilty" of doing this, but I am pretty sure these kids were NOT doing this to spite me - the smiles on their faces were the proof for me.
    Give it a rest.

That horn is meant for emergencies and again, I don't know about other states but, in Kommifornia, blasting in a non-emergency might get you a nice little slip of paper written out by a very nice man or women in Blue.

Like the others have said. In traffic, town or some one sleeping in my truck I won't do it.

Its funny as hell to see the kids get slapped around by usually their moms, or at least yelled at. Brings back so many loving :biggrin_25512: memories of my childhood that it almost brings a tear to my eye.

Heh, mine was "Don't make me stop this car". But sometimes the "Long Arm of the Law" somehow made it all the way to the backseat, in the station wagon. How mom did that, I'm still trying figure out:biggrin_25525:

LOL - yeah. My mom used to do that to us in the van...

Mack - just think about back when you were that age... It's not about mocking or making fun of you, man. Kids just love loud noises - the louder the better.
