    6. “We treat you like family and have an open door policy to where you can walk into the president’s, CEO’s, owner’s office and chat.”
    7. “We treat you with the respect you deserve.” Anytime anyone says anything about DESERVING anything, big red flag.

Good post. Just about everyone involved is going to screw your they can. If you tell the travel agent that you need to be home Friday for an noon appointment, travel agent will tell you to take a particular load and then go home. You get home 11pm Friday. “Hey, we got you home on Friday!”

No truer cliché has ever been more spot on as it applies when it comes to trucking…..”Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me”. I live by this when it comes to trucking. If I drive for a company, I operate on good faith. Until they prove otherwise. Lol

How about the ol "can you do me a favor?"

Or the "ill make it up on the next one"

I fell for those a bunch of times.. Manipulation at its finest

Im not sure its a story as much it is just times that ive been taken advantage of because i am young and naive...

Alot of times my dispatcher would call me with a load that somebody f'd up. I had built my reputation up in the dispatch office as the go to guy , which is great when u are working with the right people... But if you are working with people who dont care about you, you leave yourself vunerable to getting it shoved up your ### all the time.. And thats what happen..

Dispatch would call with something along the lines of "hey , this driver is on this load, but dont have enough hours to pick it up, can you do me a favor and go get it ? "

And of course i like to help ppl out so i would gladly accept it and go do the load.. Then i would call in empty and dispatch would say, "we need 3 more of those loads delivered to that same jobsite, can you help me out ? Ill make it up on the next one"

    Sure thing boss.

Of course, the ####### that ran out of hours would get some gravy cross country run that paid like 3x more then im making, while im now doing his dirty work, working on cents per mile pay doing local jobsite deliveries... But you know what, i did it with a smile on my face, because thats the only way i know how to do a job..

As i look back on it, it was obvious i was being used and they were manipulating me to get what they needed.. Because the "ill make it up to you on the next one" is complete bs .. That never happened...

I ate #### for my 1st 2 years of driving because i simply didnt know how to say NO... And ill be honest its still hard for me to say no, simply because i like to help out and make #### happen..... I have learned that is not necessarily a bad thing, if you are working with the right people... But some people use that to their advantage and try to manipulate you to get what they want and have no intentions of ever making it up...now a days, i have a much better eye to know when someones trying to bend me over. I just wont do any "favors" for someone i don't trust. They will continue to shovel #### in your corner as long as you let them.

Maybe that is a good segway on some of the ways companies can you manipulate you into the infamous "lease purchase deal"

    Be your own boss!

Oh, but by the way you dont own anything and wont ever own anything as long as we have control over all of your revenue...classic manipulation right there as well.. They get you to believe you can actually own a business, but if you look at the nuts and bolts of how it works there is no way you can make some of these programs work.. Then the next guy is lured into that advertising and the cycle continues.

My first job out of high school working at a grocery store, pretty much anytime anyone called in sick or needed a schedule change, and they asked me to cover, I would. Then the one time I needed a day off, no one would cover for me. Luckily my boss knew how much I covered for others so he just switched the schedule. For trucking I do frequently cover others, though I almost prefer they just ask me to do it without an I owe you one.

If “I don’t mean to be rude” translates to “prepared for me to be rude”, and “I don’t want to argue” means to prepare for shots to be fired, how should I understand, “it will help you pay for fuel/it will get you to a better location “?
